I learned something today about 1965 Canadian dollars

..... And that is there are actually five varieties of 1965 Canadian voyageur dollars consisting of different edge beading and number 5 design

types in the 1965 date:

- Small beads pointed 5.
- Small beads blunt 5.
- Medium beads pointed 5.
- Large beads pointed 5.
- Large beads blunt 5.

I have found in my recently purchased 1965 PL set that I have the large beads-pointed 5 varietyimage

The medium beads is the scarcest and most valuable of the 5 types.

Cool....have to keep my eye out for that one Donimage

Edit to add: Looking back at this post I would image one would have to look at a lot of these to be able to tell the difference in the bead sizes. I think I have the small bead- pointed 5 and not the large bead...sorry. It's hard tell by the example images it would be better to have the coins side by side to really see the differenceimage

The best way to tell them apart is to look at the rear jewel in the tiara. If it is nearly detached then it is the medium beads (V-5).
