My husband and I just reported it to eBay. He's posting it on a bunch of other forums so more people can harass her. I emailed her for the serial number and, surprise - surprise, she hasn't gotten back to me yet. But I hope she's scared!

Actually, if someone were to win that coin and get the info for the money order and maybe contact the police so that they could be there waiting for them when they pick it up - that could be pretty cool. Their little scam is actually a federal offense since it's across state lines. Maybe a little jail time, hmmmmmm.....

Wow trimes must really be getting hot if we are starting to see fraud at ebay!!!!! LOL good job....funny thing is I saw this auction the other day but said no way would I buy a $2k coin from a (0) ebayer....
Here is an interesting thought.....is it really illegal to offer a coin that another dealer owns at a higher price...figuring that you can buy it if you sell it? just food for thought
It's allowed if you state that it's a pre-sell and you have to ship within 30 days of payment. However, I don't think that this seller has any kind of shipping planned. Do you?

That would be like me putting your car up for sale without your knowledge.
bikingnut not really...if a dealer has a coin in his case for sale at $100.....you see it and you go over to another isle at a coin show and say to a dealer do you want this coin for $110...the dealer says yes so you go over to the 1st dealer buy it for $100 and deliver it to the second for $110....different from my car which I did not advertise for sale....now I know this is hard on specific rare coins but I bet many ebays might be playing this game with common dates that they know they can pick up and "fill" the sale...just a thought

Edited again to add.... All 3 referenced links are gone!!!! Wow!!!! Poor scumnuker is never going to get a completed sale and get any feedback.

It's truly funny, no make that truly sad, that people in this day and age are so wrapped up in their own little world that they refuse to try and teach someone else the correct or accepted way of doing things.
ebay was fraud..... all vanished in a puff of smoke....glad ebay finally pulled an auction....bout time they stopped these frauds...
but the coin was sold by ASPEN at the ANA show....see these things can get very complicated...this whole thing started because a person saw it on Aspen web site and ebay...of course Aspen could not remove it since he was away at ANA....it might have been legit.....see sometimes we think too far ahead of ourselves..

Before I posted this I spoke to Aspen Park Rare Coins. I was 100% sure this wasn't legit.
If anyone is interested, the seller of the fraudulent coin is no longer a registered user with eBay. She had opened her account the day she listed the two fraud coins and now she has been booted off eBay completely.

It's done all the time. I used to work for a baseball card and comic book store and that's how we filled our customers want lists. We called around our contacts to see who had what and for how much, or went to shows and bought from the lowest seller and sold to the highest buyer. Nothing illegal about it. Whether it's IMMORAL to sell something that is not actually in your posession, is another question, but it is legal as long as you make good on your promise to deliver the goods at the agreed upon price.
Well, I'm very glad to see one more fraudulent seller dealt with. Way too many in this hobby already. I only hope a criminal prosecution is in the works someplace.

Since no money changed hands, I don't believe there is a prosecutable offense. And she could just start another ID and try again with something else. Hopefully, getting caught right away will discourage her from trying it again.

Edit: Link pulled until I can do more research.
The key here is you called around or bought from the lowest seller. I doubt any of that happened in these auctions.
