Inaugural TCCS Meeting

The inaugural meeting of the Toned Coin Collectors Society was, in one word - "Vibrant"
I think we have at least 20 Founders (Founders are those Collectors and Dealers willing to make a 1 time contribution of $250 as seed money to get this Organization off to a solid start). After our meeting a number of members who initially paid the 1st years' dues decided that they wanted to be Founders, not just regular members. Most major Toned Coins Dealers have elected to be Founders, so we are off to a great start. Based on the response at our inaugural meeting, I believe that this will be a premier coin organization that will be beneficial for all collectors and dealers of Toned Coins.
The “Show Off Your Toners” Contest was, to “coin a phrase” - Very Colorful! In fact spectacularly so. Even though MS68 violated the carefully thought out rules and entered 4 toned commerative coins, they were so beautiful that every one waived the single coin rule, just so we could see them.
Our Winners were:
19th Century: Tom Turissini (Big Moose) - a gorgeous 1881-S Toned Morgan
20th Century: Jason Stevens (JBStevens) - a spectacular 1945-D Mercury Dime
Commerative: Dave Schweitz (MS68)- THE toned Oregon - ‘nuff said
Modern Coin: A tie! Mark Ross (Merysu)- a spectacular 1970-S Roosevelt Dime- and Dave Sands (Quarterjack) a beautiful 1967 Kennedy Half (sorry about the Franklin reference - you can tell I don't collect halfs)
Edited to correct the ownership for the moderns
Best of Show: Tom Turissini’s wonderful 1881-S Toned Morgan edged out Dave Schweitz’s spectacular toned Oregon by 1 vote!
(probably because his 3 other toned comms siphoned off at least 4-5 votes as they were also monster toned coins)
Interim Officers:
Ron Sirna, President and Treasurer
Bryan Orsborn Vice President
Andy Kimmel, Secretary
Tom Turissini, Director
Stan Hatanaka, Director
Glenn Gilman, Director
Steve Pastorius, Director
Richard Abrahams, Director
The next regular membership meeting is scheduled for the FUN show to be held in Fort Lauderdale, FL in January, 2005 - Date and time to be announced.
There will be a regional meeting of the TCCS at the Long Beach show in September - Date and time to be announced. We may even try another "Show Off Your Toners" Contest.

On another note, I had a display of Toned Coins in the ANA Exhibit area, but unfortunately the lighting was not very good and you couldn't really see the colors of my toners unless you looked at them a little sideways to catch what little light there was available to reflect off of the coins. While at the show, I bought a few nice toners - actually a frew too many - but one was a spectacular toned Peace dollar that more than one dealer tried to buy, but it's NFS!

Overall a great ANA, and a great start to our Toned Coin Collectors Society

You guys need to quit pickin' on bald guys - there's a few of our members that resemble that
Whoops - went back and corrected that to a 67 Kennedy Half - (but that 67 Frankin would have been unique )

<< <i>I will make the next one and am also "throwing down the gauntlet" to some of my buddies >>
I look forward to it!
If you have an interest in learning more about toned coins, want to meet others that appreciate the beauty of toned coins (and yes you can still have a love of the blast white coins too- it is not an either or thing), etc, please look into joining this organization.
After learning more about TCCS and seeing the great potential it has for meeting other people that enjoy toned coins, providing education on toned coins, etc. on collecting toned coins, I changed my (initial) regular membership to a "Founder".
Here is some additional information that was posted prior to the ANA convention.TCCS Info

<< <i>BTW, the meeting lasted so long (because we were having fun) we had to move outside onto the concourse! One small correction, Quarterjack entered the beautiful half and the 1970-s dime was my entry (glad they tied, both were worthy). I guess I can live with being a part of an orginization lead by a scUM ALUM . And to echo Ron's comments, I think in a few years this organization will be one of the leaders in the hobby. -mark- >>
Mark - turn on your PM feature - I wouldn't want to publically mentioned that "Buckeyes" are just another kind of nut! - As we say up here in "Meeechegan" Go Blue!

this will certainly lead to problems down the road....suggest you work it out now rather than later!
THanks, but we are TCCS, not TCGS
I think we're OK

Thanks Dennis - We're looking forward to having "diversity" in our TCCS - even if you collect funny old brown coins, I hear this rumor that they can tone very nicely under the right circumstances - If you've got any nice iridescent blue-chocolate toners, post a picture so those "Silver" guys know what an "Old" toned coin looks like!
If anyone else needs a Membership App, its obtainable from a link at the top of this thread - can be opeded and printed out if you have adobe acrobat reader (which is readily available from Adobe's website). THanks for all the nice comments from our forum members.
(Now if I can just figure out how to create that website . . . . )
