I really like this Comoros 20 franc

This is a coin that I keep coming back to over and over - love the design.
(Hope this linky works)

Darn - When I click on them they open fine. I didn't want to upload a 50kb version so I am linking to Webshots.imageimage
I guess I will have to use the watered down pictures.

Hey, that's a Coelacanth fish- y'know- the one they thought was extinct since prehistoric times, known only from fossils, and then pow, somebody caught a live one? I think the first was caught in 1935 or so. Maybe that's where it was caught.

    Aha.

I'm impressed with myself. I knew how to spell "coelacanth" correctly on the first try, correctly guessed that Comoros is where they've been caught, and missed the first catch date by only three years.

    Aren't I a clever fellow. image

    Humble, too. image

The 1984 World Fisheries Conference 5 Francs coin from the Comoros also features the coelacanth:

Mark - Believe it or not, I captured the colors almost exactly. A beautiful even toned coin.
Sorry to sound less than modest, but I don't usually catch the true colors in my photos but this one did.

Great coin, Shep, never saw such reverse before image Actually I'm collecting all these french colonial coins, because of their obverse, which has an image of ships in the harbour, but some of them really have a very imressive reverse too! image
