Did they really send all the Sackies to South America?

I hear that the Sac coinage is very popular in South America and the natives have taken to the coin and like and identify with the Indian likeness. They think we made the coin for them. I haven't seen any around here (central Long Island) since they came out. Do you see many or any in circulation where you live? just curious...

At least 5 million of them are down there, plus millions of counterfeits, too.

I seem to recall the total number at 500 million, i.e., half of the 2000 production.

    So they'll be circulating.

I can see it now: Braddick, wearing a Hawaiian shirt, sunglasses, and a Panama hat, strolling through downtown Quito, in search of the elusive FR02 Sackie... image

I recall reading an article awhile back that stated some of the countries down there that use U.S. currency prefer the Sacs over paper dollars because the Sacs last longer, and those countries don't have to go through the hassle of shipping a bunch of worn out and mutilated bills back to the U.S. image

I was thinking of him when I was doing that exact thing minus the Hawaiian shirt, since it is COLD down there. I got Sacagaweas out the wazoo, all the of them worn down to at least EF. What are the grading standards for them? Maybe we should send all our halves down to Ecuador too - they already use a half dollar down there.

Gemini, I live 30 miles from you and I see them all the time. As has been stated, use the post office vending machines and you'll end up with both Sacs and SBAs.

Thanks for your tips where to get them at the Post Office etc. but I am just mentioning that I have never received any in routine business dealings such as a supermarket gas stations fast food places or any other such stores etc. Also I have not received any of the new nickels yet either and I have small business with a cash drawer and check through a lot of the change myself. I obtain coin rolls for the cash drawer from my Bank quite often. The State Quarters on the other hand are plentiful.
