How does a BGS 9 become a BGS 10 Pristine?

Well I haven't been tracking the 1998 SP authentic Vince Carter rookie as I use to (keeping track of the grades of all cards auctioned). Since there are 3500 of them (pretty high numbers by today's standards) many of them have been regraded over and over.
Well I was suprised to see that the first BGS 10 Pristine had been graded. The seller didn't get a bite at $4,495.95 but if this card was around during Vince's boom he probably could have easily cracked $15K...PSA 10's were selling for $3,000!.
Anyways I checked up on my own pop report of the grades and this card turned out to be a BGS 9.....wonder what work was done on it to make it jump to Pristine.......

1. the card was trimmed, meaning Beckett grades trimmed cards. everyone knows they do, so this is probably the reason
2. the card wasn't trimmed, meaning their graders are so bad they can't tell the difference between a Mint condition card and a Pristine condition card
whichever it is, it proves the BGS sucks
The card was trimmed and that fact escaped the grader's notice. PSA is supposedly grading harsher these days, but it's not far-fetched to imagine a trimmed card was submitted with a stack of legitimate 10's and slipped through.
The card was not trimmed, but still arrived at PSA with a large submission of real 10's. It's not far-fetched to imagine a grader with a stack of modern cards in front of him and giving less than intense scrutiny to every single one. There may be an assumption, after grading 47 Gem Mints in a row from that stack, that the rest are the same and only a cursory inspection is given.
I'm sure PSA would insist these things do not happen, but it certainly seems possible. I wonder what they would say when confronted with the evidence of a serial # card being graded first 8 and then 10. Vincecarder, can you display your proof as you did with the BGS card?

I also remembered the 15/3500 in PSA 10 bouncing back and forth all over the place from $1,500 to $3,500.....must have gone thru 5 or 6 different sellers trying to resell for a quick profit. Didn't realize that it was PSA 9 first by your file. Too damn funny; but sick for the person who owns it now. Might have been trimmed to make it look better and slipped thru ala a "10".
BTW VC, are you trying to purchase all 3500 produced? Hence the file.
Is it really worth keeping track of now? Nah....Vince didn't pan out to be the "Next Jordan" and these cards have fallen in value. It's just interesting to finally see the "BGS 10 Pristine" since that card would have made huge money in the day.
