Thanks to everyone who commented on my penny. For those who didn't, the issue was that I was vacillating over keeping (seven day return policy) this penny because of the bothersome obverse mark.
In my fretting over the coin, I noticed considerable doubling on the coin. The first thing I noticed was that the entire date was doubled to some degree.
Upon further examination I noticed quite a bit of other doubling.
Bottom line is that this coin has a doubled date and doubled obverse legends. After some conversations, as near as I can tell the guys who follow Canadian varieties closely have never seen the scarcest 1858 obverse variety matched with the scarcest 1858 reverse variety. Now, supply and demand being what it is, it is hard to tell what this might be worth, but some people who should know have never seen one, so I'm encouraged.
Better lucky than good. I'm keeping it!

Come on over ... to The Dark Side!
It has double hype too, Victorian red cent and a variety, if trends continue this coin should appreciate!
