How 'Bout Smoe More Pittsburgh Reports?

I always look forward to the show reports and do thank you guys for posting them. They seem to be slow coming in this week.

Heritage has posted the realized prices for their Signature Sale on the lots that have passed through. Looks like the prices have rebounded from the brief lull of the summer.

I posted two report threads and one update but my threads get bumped back by interesting threads the likes of the ongoing strife between Poe58 and his many adversaries, the PMM quarter, and funny stuff growing on a coin in a SGS holder. If you search for "ANA" or "Report", you will probably uncover them.

PCGS booth was always loaded with folks who want to submit coins. With $200 walk through price tag, it can't slow down the submission. David Hall talked about 8000 coins were submitted in pre-show (used to be average 3000 coins) during the lunch Q&A section.

For JFS Commemoratives auction, I don't feel the prices are very strong except for a few high price coins. Many coins sold below 2002 price.

Cardinal's 1794 book was released in the show, I was told there are only 100 copies printed (can't verify whether it is truth). Very informative and tons of data in the book. Highly recommended to buy one thought it is not cheap.

For coin grading world series, I will talk about it after Saturday 2pm when result is ready.

  • I'll be heading into town in a little while for the pattern auction this morning - I hope to meet a few more forum members, and may be selling off a couple of collections (Morgans, Lincolns) that I have put together over the last 10 years or so; but only if I have to use them as collateral for any winnings. I'll send my impressions of the day later this evening.

    I'll post mine tonight.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

If you want smoe reports, better ask Russ, Ken and K6AZ!!!! They seem to have the smoe monopoly on these boards!

As far as legitimate, informative posts on the ANA are concerned, I agree that it's "the more the better". A couple of good reports already have been posted. Note the differing opinions expressed on the auction, one said "hot" and another said "not"!

Just reviewing the Heritage Signature Sale prices realized seems to show that all the auctions with average to lower end material took a minor beating. I'd say the auction pricing was very consistent. Quality is the driver. The high end stuff went strong or nutty as usual. There seems to be too much average stuff at the moment to absorb it all. There ought to be a law as to how many auctions you can have in a weekimage. From 1979-1990, the 4 auction houses that didn't get the ANA sale (non-Heritage) got together and put together a combined sale that usually rivaled the ANA sale. Now these guys just have their own separate sales.

Wish I could have been at Pittsburgh.
