Thinking of building a high grade MS Canadian $ set ... any advice?

This is my first post on the "dark side" though I've lots of experience .... in the past .... with non-US / Canadian coins. I built and sold a $ set 20yrs. ago and wish to start another for my 3yr. old son. Toned/ original and high grade. Any advice or offers? Thanks in advance. K

Certified or raw? Prices have been increasing in the last few years. If interested I have a 1949 $ NGC MS66 for sale.

The 1948 in MS-65 currently trends for $7,000 Canadian, or $5,250 U.S. The rest are lower.

The highest end Canadian stuff is usually sold by one of two guys. Moore Numismatics Inc. of Walnut Creek CA or The Coinosseur (sp?) i.e. Michael Walsh of Vancouver. Moore doesn't have a web site. Walsh's is www.coinosseur.com (sp?). Subscribe to Canadian Coin News @ www.canadiancoinnews.com, buy a Charlton catalog and the Standard Grading guide (try www.brooklyngallery.com) and you'll learn the lay of the land. Are you looking for supergrades or just nice, raw BU dollars? I assembled my set of raw dollars over the course of a few years, but I still need to find a 1948 with decent eye-appeal in the affordable AU-58 to MS-62 range. eBay is a good place to look for ICCS-slabbed coins.

Thanks to all. I will start with the tougher coins .... 64 or better. I would prefer a highly colored set though this is tough with all but the 1935-1936, or 1958 onward $'S. Wish me luck . K
