I know we focus a lot on the bad guys in the hobby and a lot of them deserve some discussion. But I also think we don't dwell enough on the good guys in the hobby. I was looking at some cards last night and I'm reminded of one of the best personal experiences I've ever had in the hobby.
I've known Johnny Adams Jr. since I got back into the hobby in 1990. When he set up at shows in those days he had very little to sell and was mostly buying. However one time in 1993 he had a bunch of cards for sale in a box on his table at a Houston show and I started going through them and most were some stunning 1964 Topps baseball cards. I cherry picked all the sharp and centered cards and prices were around Beckett high as I recall. Just about all were commons but there was one Lou Brock card and one Bob Gibson card. I remember not having enough cash to cover how much I bought and he told me, "Don't worry about it, send me check when you come up with the money." That blew me away that a dealer would trust someone from a different part of the country on a sizeable sale like that. As it turns out many years later, I submitted those cards for grading and the majority graded 9, including the '64 Bob Gibson which I still have.

and that is one of the main reasons I continue to look to these guys first.
