Ebay hypothetical.....

A certain seller on ebay has several coins (4-6 K) I would be interested in........

This seller lists his location as a town less than 45 minutes driving time away..........

I emailed several times to see if I could examine the coins "up close and personal"............

My emails go unanswered.............

What would be your best guess.......... Lazy seller or pure fraud ??????????

Some people are funny like that. They're afraid to do a face-to-face for whatever reason.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

  • what kind of feedback? any negs? I would avoid if he doesn't have courtesy to answer - but give him a day or so ........unless they end soon..........Can you bid low, and then get his contact info from eBay?

Maybe the seller is afraid you are a con and looking to get his/her address with the intention of ripping him/her off.

Send another Email asking if the two of you can meet at a mutually agreed upon location such as a local coin shop or other safe location.

It depends on the seller... if it's a low-feedback one, it could be a scam... if it's a high-feedback one, could he be on vacation? Ask a simple question that would likely get answered ("how's the lustre on this one?") to see if he's home...

turn it around... would you meet a stranger that emailed you about seeing some expensive coins?

I sure wouldn't. Now if we had done business before....

    maybe.

  • That's a warning, I would stay away. If the Seller had high confidence in his/her coins they'd be glad to get together with you. And with 4K to 6K, it would be foolish to buy from a Seller like the one you described. At least you'll sleep at night and I'm sure sooner or later a legit seller will have the same coins, may take awhile, but better than gambling $4K to $5K on an unresponsive seller.

If you used that wording, I think the seller would be a little nervous. Especially if you told him you were "Cerifiable" and he saw your photo.

I don't know many people that would want to carry around $5k and meet unknown people. Forget about coming to the house.

If you were more tactful, you might have had a chance to examine the coins. At this point, I think your Seller in now hiding in his Cellar.
Actually learning a few things here. What a great site.

yes, exactly what did you say in your email requests?
I think that is an important factor here, as well as, was this your first communication with the seller.

Everyone has nailed it. Nobody wants anybody, not even people they know, in their houses casing the joint. Maybe he's afraid

you'll kill him for these coins. Man, nowadays 12 year olds will kill a classmate "just to see what it felt like." People kill people for $20

to go and buy a couple of rocks or to steal your shoes! This isn't the 50's and it sure as hell ain't Mayberry. One dude , a BIG dude,

killed a woman, picked her up and threw her off a high bridge, into the River, just for literally bumping his car. Nooooooooooo, I

    don't think so Bro.image

i think it's rude of you to ask "several times" for this privilege. of course, it's rude for him/her not to just politely decline either... anyhow, i don't blame someone for not inviting a perfect stranger to his household. you have no business there.

Your first negative response, in the form of NO response should have been answer enough to your first inquiry.

Color it "rude" or not, it is the Seller's right.

  • Send another email and offer to meet inside a bank...maybe the seller will reply to that.
