Need a little information, please. Coin buyer pays 3 times.

I sold a coin on Ebay about a week and a half ago. The buyer paid almost immediately via Pay Pal. Two days later I got another payment from him via Pay Pal with a unconfirmed address so I waited a day and then denied the payment. Thirty minutes ago I got another payment from him and the money is in my account.

Here is the question. Is there any such thing as automated payments from a buyer ? Is Pay Pal goofed up on this or is it the buyer who is trying to give me this money goofed up ?

I know he has the coin because it went out a week ago via Priority Mail. Needless to say I'm baffled with this one.

It's probably the same guy who bought from me a couple of months ago.

After I returned the second and explained he already paid, the next day another one shows up.

He does seem to stop after 3 payments, so hopefully you're done with him. I think he was senile, or close to it.

Did he remember if he received the coin ? This could be a disaster if he cannot remember anything.

OK, let me understand this...The person buys a coin and pays three times for it? Where is the problem?

Hold on, let me look in my box of coins, I got something here image

Just kidding, this is a funny story though, I've never heard anything like it.

    Interesting.

He wasn't any trouble after he quit sending PayPal payments, and was apologetic about doing it. He was old and confused. I don't remember if he left feedback or not.

No one has ever done that to me before or since, so I bet it's the same guy. There can't be too many out there like that.

Maybe I should get his contact info and ring him up. Then I'll suggest that he should buy from me more often...image

Relayer was the guy from Arizona ? Geez I really did not think anything like this would ever happen.

Dave it was a White Merc. Now I know where to get rid of those ugly white ones that every once in a while I have to take with the Pretty Toned ones.

I found him in my PayPal history download. His name was Thomas U. - is that him? It was a $53.50 payment 3 times.

It doesn't show the addresses in the download log, but it shows the note I wrote on his refund:

"Thomas- You only have to pay for the coin once. This is the 3rd payment and the 2nd refund. You should recieve the coin today or tomorrow."

Looking at my log I see I've had four other people send duplicate payments that were refunded, but he was the only 3 time payer.

(Edit- I found the payment info and his address is in California - but maybe he went on vacation to AZ and forgot to come back?) image

Well we have two guys that really love to pay three, and hopefully no more, times for a coin. Completely different name than what you have relayer.

If this guy hits me with another payment will this be a forum record ?

If he keeps sending them, you should just keep the money. There is only so much you can do for these people.

I have had several eBay buyers pay twice through PayPal, but never three times.

In the last three weeks, however, the computer shop where I work has received two emails from PayPal on two different days for each buyer who won one laptop bag we sell. Unfortunately the shipping clerk (the boss' daughter) sends out two to each winning bidder, none of whom has actually paid for more than one. After three weeks of sending out 2 packages for the price of 1, based on 2 PayPal notifications for each of a dozen bidders, someone finally called up today to say that UPS notified them of a second laptop bag coming from us.

  • That happened to me too! Of course I returned the dough each extra time and also sent an email.

I doubt that its senility, probably from reading too many posts on the forum. I sold a coin to a youngster here on ebay, and before I even get his check or mail the coin he leaves me postive feedback on how great a buyer I was for him. (it was a sample slab image).

    I had something similar happen.

Got paid twice. Refunded once. Sent the coin. Got positive feedback.

Two weeks later the guy sends an email, "Did you send my coin yet?"

I gave him the Deliv Cfm # and also reminded him of the feedback he left. He apologized.
  • this has happened to me once. i made several purchase at about the same ending time and paid for them with paypal. paypal said the payment was never made so i made another payment and that was never made i had heard from the seller and he returned my money. buying another few items i paid for this item a third time and the seller again returned my payment. it was paypal telling me that i didnt make a payment when actually it had been paid. i have since found another book keeping method but paypal will come up and say that you didnt pay for somthing when it has been paid for. i think that seller had to be a member of this board.

I'd be happy to learn from Gomez. His methods worked for him, he was quite wealthy.

I had a guy send me 3 payments through Paypal also! It's been about a year and I can't remember the name, but I'm sure he was from Arizona.
