Hey Ike Guys... What About These Toned Coins?

I won a few WILD TONED Ikes tonight. Here is one, although the picture does not capture the sensational color:

1972(p) Ike

Are you seeing more toned MS clad Ikes hitting the market these days?

Here is another:

1976(d) Wild Toned

    Mitch,

Nice 72-P type one. Based on the picture, it is a very high end MS65.

I believe both coins are with album toning, natural ones image

JC: When I personally viewed this auction, I thought the 72(p) had claims to the next highest grade and I bid accordingly. Same for a 1974(p) in MS65 I also bought. With a few more coins - I might be able to get my Registry collection on the "front page" sometime soon.

"You will see soon a nice brown/green toned Ike ......"

    I can't wait!

Now that the Ikes are upwards of 33 year old coins - I wonder how many more beautifully toned album coins will surface?

    Super Buy !!
Nice Color Business Strikes Are Seldom Found, And Are Worth Much More Than Their Brillant, Or Common Bag Toned Cousins !!
The " Key" Is That The Coin Must Have Exceptional Eye Appeal.
While Color And Prooflike Coins Are Pretty Common For Morgans, The Exact OppoSite Is True For Ikes!!
Every Color Coin, And Every Prooflike Ike Is Like Finding A 1972-P Type # 2 Ike !!!

  • I almost posted a new message last night re: teletrade pictures.

It's bin a while since I have won an auction from teletrade. ( last Ike won Feb 23rd )

First of all I want to say that the high end Ike's that were up last night looked fantastic, most
of all the one's that Mitch bought !! ( by the pics undergraded )
I also won one of those Ike's last night, but was a little hesitant on a couple of the more
    high price coins because of:

    1) The Ike I received back in Feb was not as nice as the Pic.

    2) the discription of the 72-D / 66 that described heavy die polish on the
Obv and Rev, but I did not see in the pics?

I for one would like to hear from someone who has recently won a teletrade coin.
or maybe "egsantos" might be able to tell us before we receive? ( teletrade consigner? )

I will be very curious to see my Ike when it shows early next week, and will let
you guys know how it looks in person.

Mitch, Please let us know how the Ike's look when you receive them. By the pics they
    look like a ms66 / and ms67

Congratulations on the Ikes Mitch. If you want some real NICE ones, go for the PKOK toned coins. I recently missed out on 3 due to a conflict with work/computer problems. I would have bid much higher than what they sold for. I have a few and they are a WONDER to see!! I have a fantastic 72 with the bright NEON PKOK green and blue that is VERY hard to put down once you pick it up. Yet to be graded. But, it puts my MS 66 Binion rainbows to shame for color. The PKOKs I have graded have been from PCI but I think they would cross to PCGS. Many have lately. There are also several with the "album" toning. They are pretty and have a faint bit of the PKOK color, but PKOKs stand alone. I know of 2 other board members with probably complete sets of the PKOKs and would love to see their sets/coins. They come in both proof and MS. The MS are nicer in my opinion. Some people are trying to "tone" the Ies like the PKOKs, but, haven't been successful. I think this is where some of the prettier "new" toned Ikes are coming from. Ray

Mike: I lot viewed the Ikes before bidding on them. And, if you won that 72(d) - it was also a very nice coin. I got focused on the three high grade color coins in the sale and didn't get back to the 72(d) (you know how it is with Teletrade - you are always concerned about a last second max bid kicking in). I had personally graded the 72(p) Ike MS65++/66 (obverse)/66+++ (reverse). Actually, the reverse was nearly MS67 quality I thought, which, I know is hard to believe - but, the color is very neat and the coin is ultra clean as well. I figured I could comfortable bid the coin to around $3,000 or so if I had to - beyond that - I wasn't sure whether I would go higher. Obviously, I was surprised and pleased to win the coin at $825 with commish. Sometimes you get lucky at auction and other times you pay your max bid - it all evens out in the end I suspect.
