Wednesday at the ANA: I was there

I completed my 2004 ANA show today in a total of about 6 hours, which included 20 minutes trying to find the Cremora at the coffee stand, and 45 minutes listening to the ANA board of governors congratulate each other on the fine job they had all done to bring the ANA to Pittsburgh for the first time in 14 years while 967 collectors anxiously checked their watches and noted that it was now 10:07 AM, and a full 7 minutes since they expected to be in the bourse rummaging through piles of unsearched wheat cents which could very likely contain an MS66RD 1922 plain.

For me, the show was uneventful, lacking the excitement and killer coins that tend to surface at the ANA, unless they will surface tomorrow and I missed them, in which case I will be ticked off that I could have gone later, avoided the speeches and ribbon cutting ceremony (with an enormous pair of scissors that looked like a Laugh-in prop from 1971) and found something I need.

I did have a nice chat at the Jade Coin table, met up with a couple of fellow colonial collectors and did see some quite nice coins mostly at Tony Terranova's table. But unfortunately, nothing I really had to have and so I left not buying anything at all.

I had a very positive experience chatting with one of the women at the PCGS table, who was dishing out excellent customer service and being witty at the same time. I like that.

And I did enjoy seeing, once again, the Cardinal $ Collection on display, this time at the Hertiage table, I believe. Some wild stuff in that group, but with one coin that just isn't quite up to snuff in my humble opinion. I would have liked to see a nicer 8 Reales, as the one in the set looks like seawater salvage on steroids.

OK - that pretty much covers it.

  • Thanks, I hope it's gets better. I'm not arriving until tomorrow. But I would've left today if I got bored and agitated like it sounds you did.
