I guess CAM on the quarter and DCAM on the dime.
  • I guess cam on both.

I'd say Cam on the Dime and just miss on the quarter. Hard to say from the images but it looks like there are frost breaks on LIBERTY and on UNITED STATES...but it still is a nice one.

That wouldn't stop the coin from grading cameo.

    Ken,

If the images accurately reflect the degree of contrast, the quarter looks like a cameo, and the dime a strong cameo.

In my experience, it is not so much the degree of frostiness that determines CAM or DCAM on SMS coins at PCGS. As Russ says, they have to have strong conrast with the fields. The mirrors are the key, and are often overlooked. A lot of very frosty coins don't get the designation because they lack mirrors/contrast.

I'd judge both at least CAM, some chance at DCAM (better for the dime).

    Nice coins!

Quarter should receive CAM, IMHO. However, I am holding in my hand a PCGS 1967 MS67 SMS quarter at this moment that looks like the one ksteelheader has posted (except the one I am looking at in my hand has mirrored fields that do not have the hazy look of the one pictured). For some reason PCGS did not give it a CAM designation. It also looks similar to the MS68 CAM posted by NWCS.

Looking at the two pictures and the one in my hand leaves me perplexed and POed. I can see why submitting to a TPG is a crap shoot. Just like throwin the bones. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose and you go crazy trying to figure out why.

The dime appears to be a lock for a CAM. DCAM, I have no idea because I have never seen a DCAM SMS dime. Are any DCAM SMS dimes listed in the pop reports?

Not very many. None for 1965, one for 1966 and 12 for 1967.

  • Russ, the pics are pretty accurate. I'll let Marty and Don see them tomorrow for a better idea on what to do with them!

  • Looks like they will both grade CAM, and the dime *might* go DCAM.
