A few nice ancients from our collection

Some of these were posted before but we enjoy sharing again and for the benefit of new comers.

This is an extraordinary and very rare Roman Republic Bronze coin with a lion on one side with a sword through the neck and a horse on the other, it is about the size of a shoe polish can. This particular coin has not been sold in a public auction in over 32 years.

This is a beautiful and extremely rare commerative gold aurea of Septimus Severus (around 190 ad) with a tent display in the shape of a ship from the circus maximus, all kinds of exotic animals are fleeing from the ship and can be distinguished under magnification.

This is a wonderful Carthiginian Decadrahm made near Sicily with Pegasus on the reverse, a very large coin about twice the size of a silver dollar.

This is a beautiful Decadrahm of Syracuse by the great ancient artist Kimon, considered by many the most beautiful coin ever made.

In the early nineteen eighties this was the most expensive coin in the world, the extremely rare Athens Decadrahm, about thirty are known today with 25 of them impounded in museams, this particluar example was found in a dig in Syria.
