What is your single best submisson result at PCGS?

Mine was a modern commemorative 2000 library of Congress bi-metallic $10 platnum and gold it came back a PCGS MS70....sold it 4 years ago for $2400 to a major dealer.

What is the one coin that is your best PCGS submisson result?

I have had several very nice results.

One of which included 4 1979-P Wide Rim SBA dollars in MS66.

Another a few months ago that included several MS65 clad IKEs and 2 in MS66.

I had a couple of MS69 Lincolns from unc mint sets (2001 & 2003).

From a mint bag, I have 2004-D Peace Medal Jeff graded MS67.

The biggest grade difference in a positive way between my opinion and PCGS' opinion was on the 1796 dime that is now in my collection. When I purchased the piece in the mid 1980s, the dealer graded it Ch VF, and I generally agreed with that. The coin had mint luster, but it was a late die state, and as a result the hair detail kind of had a VF look to it. It also had some adjustment marks, which had affected the sharpness of the strike.

When I submitted the coin, I thought that it would come back somewhere within the VF-30 to EF-40 range. I was really surprised with it got an AU-50. Because of the mint luster, I can see why it got that grade. I was just surprised that the graders noticed that and based the grade upon that factor instead of the hair detail.

Another big plus for the coin was that it is original. It's never been dipped.

Submitted the following 1823 (Broken 3) PCGS MS-63 Capped Bust Half raw which I purchased in early 1980's.

PCGS has graded 44 as equals, and only 30 higher grades. I love the colorful and original toning

An 1872 two cent piece that I bought raw as a VF-20. I thought it might grade VF-30, but to my surprise it came back as an XF-40!

Now, if I weigh that against the number of negative surprises I've had...

I bought a raw, common date $10 Indian at auction for $400 which came back MS65, making it a $3,000 coin. At the same auction, I bought a 1941-S Walker for $75 which also made MS65... a $1,400 coin. That was a nice day.

I got 4 1999 Conn. quarters in MS68...I think 3 were 'P' and 1 was 'D'...had 2 of them sitting in the blue box for 2 months before I looked at the pop report and saw at the time that they were pop-tops! Also, I got 3 nice Mich quarters in change at the P.O. - stashed in my key pocket of shorts till I got home and looked 'em over. I submitted the best of the 3 with a submission that I was just about to send, and it came back MS67. Pretty nice for pocket change!

I cracked an NGC MS66RD 1949-P Lincoln that I bought for $45. Add $30 for grading. It came back MS66RD from PCGS - now it's a (roughly) $300 coin. Not a lot of dollars involved, but a nice return on my investment (300%).

Submitting 2 PCGS 63 1932-D Washington Quarters for regrade and not one but BOTH upgraded to PCGS 64.
That was the best day EVER and I don't think I'll ever top that as long as I live. At the time they were worth about $2400 apiece and today worth over $7000 apiece.....easily ! Tough act to follow!

13 modern commems that graded MS70. Started 12 years ago submitting only 2 from each issue and have had pretty good luck. Early on I purchased these coins raw from Coast to Coast. Needless to say, I did better with Coast to Coast then I've done from the mint.

I've only had one submission (Well, 2, but one is still in for grading) and it was nothing special. A Half-Dime crossing from ANACS VF30 to PCGS VF30, nothing special, and certainly not a score... we'll see how I do when this next submission comes back, but not likely to be a huge score...

Back in the 80's, before all the good mint sets got cannibalized, I got a 57 mint set from Jakes Marketplace in Chicago that yielded four MS66 Franklins, and a couple each MS67 dimes and quarters. That was before the FBL designation was in use.

Russ, I was about to ask when The Coin was going to make another appearance.

I've made some nice Jefferson Nickel grades (including a 1964 MS66 that was a pop 4/0 at the time), but my best score is still my first. Back in 1995 or 1996, I bought a raw 1922-D Lincoln at Stacks on 57th Street in New York, plucked it right out of a complete UNC Wayte Raymond set of Indians and Lincolns they'd bought over the counter shortly before my visit. It was a terrific bit of serendipity - I'd arrived in the city early for a meeting, decided to kill some time staring at their cases, and struck up a conversation with the salesman. I mentioned off-hand that I'd had the worst time finding a nice BU '22-D, and he said, "You should see the one that walked in here the other day."

Anyway, I bought it for $140, sent it in and PCGS graded it MS65RD. I believe that holder would now be called a 'rattler', and I wouldn't be shocked if the coin was in a 66RD holder today - it had BY FAR the crispest strike on a '22-D I've ever seen. I sold it in late 1996 to help defray my wedding costs for a fraction of what it could be worth today.

Line one is the greatest coin I have made thus far, the Crown Jewell of the MS State quarter series. I have made many other fantastic state quarters as well as PR70DCAM's/MS70 modern commem's but line one made this submission my single best.

My grandfather gave me a coffee can that had about 25 peace dollars in it about 12 years ago. I found a 34-S that looked like Xf-Au to me and since there is a decent price difference between the two I sent it in to Pcgs. I was more than a little excited when it came back MS-62.

a 33 saint that really is a grade of 62,63 tops EVER that went 65 and sold for an insane amount of money
that is,considering how far far and way way overgraded it is. heh, the consensus agreed before hand the coin is bagged up and has quite a few handling slides. BUT 65 it graded. How'n hellya do that ? were it ANY other date it would NEVER grade better than a 3 at ng or pc but the "5" garners near 8 mil, a 2 or a 3 would have been 1 mil to a mil 5 give or take a hun...so let's see ......hmmmmm as we rub the chins......yep, the world at large is EVIL

Not from PCGS. But I bought a junk box of IHC's at a yard sale. In it I found a double struck 50% offcenter 1907. In now sits in an NGC VF35 holder. Paid maybe a buck for it. Worth $1-2k.

I don't submit very frequently which explains my one nice little surprise. About 10 years ago I won a 1942
Jefferson Nickel on a bid board for $14.00. I thought enough of it to send it in for grading and it came back
PR-66.

I have a tie for best populationwise, first was a 1953 D Jefferson, and it made MS66FullStep Pop (2/0) at the time (November 2001) and sold on Teletrade for $1900.00. and also a 1964 D Jefferson
that I Had graded at the Long Beach Show in May 2002 that made
MS66FullStep with a Pop of 2/0 that still remains at 2/0 and resides in the Frank Corso No# 1 Registry Set for 2002/2003.

Submitted this 1892-S $20 Gold Liberty Double Eagle raw which I purchased for $275 31 years ago in October 1973 from Hugh Sconyers when he worked for Worldwide Coins of Atlanta, Georgia.

It came back as an 1892-S PCGS MS-65 (Pop 1/0) $20 Liberty -- This will be very hard for me to top!!

Mine was a jefferson of all things which I never collect. But a few years ago, I bought a 39-d Jefferson Nickel from coin shop in Bremen, Indiana for 12.00, sent it to PCGS and it came back Ms-67FS. Shortly after that I sold it for 1200.00 which at the time I thought was a good price.
