What's up with ebay?!

I opened my email just now and in my junk folder found a warning from ebay about listing violation. I just submitted some listings before findings this email.

Message:

"This auction listing has already ended. However, the listing was in violation
of eBay's policies. We would like to take this opportunity to let you know what
part of your listing is not allowed.

Your listing contains the following information:

in description:
NO Credit Card payments through Paypal [Payment methods accepted include all
PayPal options]

We realize you may not be aware of this policy, but using such terms in this way
is considered "Search Manipulation," which is not permitted by eBay."

NO Credit Card payments through Paypal [Payment methods accepted include all

Well hell....I guess you can't click on the Paypal box which shows all the little iddy biddy pics of of MC, Visa, Amex, etc and then state in your description that you don't accept CC thru paypal. I see people doing this **it all the time. I guess it makes sense. I never use that stupid Paypal icon under my payment method. I just put that non-credit card bit in my description and in my payment instructions; not under my payment methods.

  • The reason why I put the icon is for the buyers to automatically pay through paypal without going to PP website and type all info manually.

I'll just put them under the payment instructions next time (some don't read the payment instructions). Hope they don't cancel my auctions. Got bids on them already.

Some premiere/business accts don't accept them, too. This can also be turned on/off on their profile page. You can tell premiere/business accts by their buyer protection logo below the sellers name unless they're unverified. I just don't get ebay.

Did you by any chance mention "No Credit Cards" in the Item location field? I've seen that alot recently, but don't know if that is because of the crackdown, or the cause of it.
    Who is Rober Maris?
  • I mentioned it under the item description: No credit card payments through Paypal.

  • Did you have the box checked that puts the CC logos on your listing. If you do that you must accept credit card payments by Paypal. Paypal is becoming more and more of a headache everyday it seems. Glad I stopped taking it nearly 2 months ago.

In my opinion, you're potentially shorting yourself over the long run by saying no credit cards through PayPal. For some people, that is the only method of payment they use. I pay the small PayPal fee so I don't have to screw around with worrying about whether someone will pay with a credit card or not. It's really nickels and dimes when it comes down to it, but you could be costing yourself a higher sale price which would more than cover the fees. I think one of the easiest possible ways to maximize your selling price is to offer as many methods of payment as possible to cater to everyone.

  • You could just drop Paypal altogether. I have done so and have not seen a drop in sales at all on my listings. In fact the profits have gone up due to not paying Paypal anymore money.

I had the same problem and just stopped marking PayPal as a payment option, but listed it as an option (cash transfers only) in the description. Haven't noticed any change in number or amount of bids but the drop in aggravation has been HUGE. I highly recommend this approach.
This is for you @thisistheshow - Jim Rice was actually a pretty good player.
