A Perfect Example of How PCGS Steps Up and Does the Right Thing

A few weeks ago I purchase this eBay early Commemorative:

I sent it to PCGS for "correction" and was pleasantly surprised to find this returned to me:

Not only did PCGS refund the market value of the coin they also returned the coin to me. PCGS went over and beyond their "call of duty". It's wonderful to see a business take their warranty so seriously. We complain so much, I believe PCGS should be recognized for a job well done. Thank you PCGS.

That's amazing. Curiousity question here: what were you actually looking for to happen when you sent it in? Downgrade? Bodybag? Refund?

Good for you. Now there are some other "certification" companies who try to claim they offer comparable or better service than PCGS. What happens when you try to have them correct a problem in one of their slabs? Well, in one instance at a show, the "head grader" of one of these companies took the slab, broke the coin out of the holder, handed the coin back to the owner and told him tough luck.

Well I guess I know how to make money in the coin market - the only problem is it's for other people. image

On this coin, HRH's offer was out there for all to see, you were the only one sharp enough to act on it while everybody else was image

  • Great anecdote Braddick! Some may criticize PCGS, but I've never had ANY problems with them. Sure, I may disagree with a grade they give one of my submissions, but they've always been straight with me re: customer service, questions, etc. I believe they're the #1 TPGS and I can see why. NGC has also been straight with me, but I believe they SLIGHTLY overgrade the Lincoln Wheats that I specialize in.

    Wow!
    Is that a bodybag?

I've never seen one before. Do they give you any indication on what caused it?

Congrats on actually making money on this.....did you have that idea going into it? You won the auction at 1/2 that price, so that was cool.

  • ok, now dip that pup, send it back in and get that 67 grade on it...
a lot of iowas look like that, it wasnt from dipping and not rinsing properly. the packaging from the mint SUCKED. that is generally a light powdery (yet darK) charcoal type reaction (usually not etched into the surfaces) that will fall right off in a dip of jewel luster exposing full blast luster

Ron, that's not a body bag. It looks to me like PCGS decided the holdered grade was not correct. They elected to break the coin out of the holder (remove their responsibility for it) and pay Pat the market value for the labeled grade. Looks like they sent the coin back as a bonus.

    Pat,

Thanks for putting up the story. I'm glad PCGS responded the way they did.

    Ah, thanks Eric.
Like I said, I hadn't seen one before so was assuming....dammit...maybe I should litigate because it wasn't clear to me.
Pat should have made it clear image

    that's great.

here's my question, you gave us an example of pcgs going above & beyond. do they consistently do that for all their customers? or is it hit & miss???

    i hope "consistently"

It is nice to see them going above and beyond. What are you going to do with the coin now?
