I left my first negative feedback on ebay today

I finally got tired of people bidding on my auctions, winning, then not paying, that today I decided to finally leave a negative for someone. The individual used buy it now on July 9, and after repeated emails and reminders to him, never paid or replied to any of my emails. If it was a $5-$10 card, I probably would have let it go as I had in the past and simply placed him on my blocked bidders list, but because he used the BIN of $59, on the first day and I had 2 other potential bidders email me for better scans of the card earlier. I felt I couldn't let this go. He had a feedback of 10 with no purchases with feedback left for him in over a year. I thougt it might be a stolen account, but I saw today that he is bidding on other peoples auctions. I figure that he will most likely leave negative feedback in return, to ruin my perfect feedback record, but I felt that enough was enough and 38 days was long enough to wait. Let me know what you all think?

Thanks,
Drew

That's the way feedback is supposed to be used Drew. You did the right thing.

  • got my first yeaterday.... auction closed in june - won. we have been talking about further purchases to go with it since... he negged me for not paying and "not responding to emails" ??? HUH? what part of a discussion not responding? anyhow, so i obliged with a return to ruin his perfect feedback... then immedaitely applied for a mutual withdraw. oddly he received 2 more negs since mine in the last day.

There certainly should be situations on ebay whereby it would be impossible for a buyer or seller to leave retaliatory negative feedback. Two obvious examples - a non-paying bidder after 30 days or a non-shipping seller after 30 days. Also, a 5 or 10 day grace period when feedback could be changed.
  • i agree retalitory feedback stinks. I see and hear about it every day...someone never pays and the seller files for the fees back and the buyer gets a warning and Negs the seller for it. if you file a fee reembersment the buyer should have no recourse at that point.
  • Drew-Forget the negative did you file for your Final Value fee credit?? Sure feedback is important but it hurts buyers far less than filing for the credit does. If 3 different people file for this credit then the user is suspended, but the only was to do this is to file..
  • Well its what the feedback is for. Non-Buyers shouldn't be able to retaliate for such a neg but Ebay sucks that way.

To be honest I do look at some guys negs, and if you explain its a retalitory neg from a non-buyer that's good enough for me. Should be good enough for anybody that thinks about it.

  • Yes, Drew, you did the right thing. That is what feedback is for. How is anyone going to know someone's true history unless people have the balls to file a neg when it's deserved? I am proud of my perfect feedback of over 1,000 positives with no negs or neutrals filed against me. I have, however, filed at least half a dozen negs to buyers who did not follow through. Maybe I've just been lucky up to this point. However, when leaving a neg, I don't get nasty, or call anyone names. Just a simple "non-paying bidder" is sufficient to get my point across, and to warn any other sellers of my experience.

  • I recently had a guy purchase 6 cards from me after I agreed to allow him to send a money order on Paypal only auctions. After waiting a couple of weeks and sending several unanswered emails, I had to re-list the cards. He will be receiving a "neg" shortly.
  • You still need to file for the credit or you will do nothing to get these losers suspended. Neg feedback hurts buyers alot less than it hurts sellers.
  • Leaving the neg. was the thing to do but it sucks when they leave you a negative back, especially the newbies.

Piece of advice for the future:

When you list something with a BIN, especially if it's a semi-decent amount of money ($59 would qualify), list it as an immediate payment required BIN. That way the guy can't kill your BIN like that and not pay. There are people on Ebay that use secondary accounts to bid on BINs to kill auctions for cards that are competing with their own auctions.
