Another case of: "I have to have it right now"

StoogeStooge Posts: 4,668 ✭✭✭✭✭
For fun I was watching Telecoin sell this 2004-D PCGS MS68FB Roosevelt dime with a pop of (1/0) on eBay. My mouth dropped to the ground when I seen that this coin sold for $109.50!

I think, and I may be going out on a limb, there may be well over 200-300, or more of these by the end of this year and the price will be substantually lower then $109.50.

I for one will wait for the price will come down, or just try and make one myself.

Congrats to the new owner!

Later, Paul.

Later, Paul.

Hi Paul, You are right I was a bidder on this auction and bailed at $75. I thought that would be the winning bid.

Don't the sellers of all the MS69RD Lincolns make their money this way? 2003 started at around 200-250 and now is around 50-75 for the philly one. Heck, they couldn't even get $79 on eBay the last time there (8/15/04).
  • I think this one is a tough call. Of the 450 mint sets I looked at I found only 1 P and 1 D to send in. Neither one was what I would expect MS68 quality to be. However, I could have just received a bad run and others got higher quality dimes.

Donn: Good point. While the 03(p) Lincoln dropped in the price, the 03(d) Lincoln still holds around a $200 level to this day. And, a coin like the 2003(p) ALAB state quarter in MS68 - was $750 at the start of the action (and laughed at that level) and now one would have a hard time finding one under $3,000. My point being simply - sometimes you just don't know.

Paul, Fred I also thought about going for this coin. Had I not known about Mitch, and reserved one of his upcoming Roosie's, I think I would have went for the one on ebay. Like the man said you never know, sometimes you have to grab something you know you will need when it's within reach. For sure there will be more to make it this high, but remember the 1999 & 2002 D's in 68FB? Hard to come by those two since they were issued, even with pop increase midway of this year. And heaven forbid it turns out that this year is a flashback to the 95-D. image

  • Wish I'd known about this coin. I just don't have time to keep up anymore. Yeah, $110 is a few bucks but you'd have the coin. Clean desk ya know...

    Hey Mitch
Put me down for 2004 P&D roosie's in 68FB!!! If ya happen to get some 69's or god forbid a 70FB, PLEASE let me know the asking price.
  • It's a tough call, you don't really know what will happen.
But it does look like a case of the "haves" and the "have nots" going on.

Re- 2004 Roosies - - I should (hopefully) be able to fill all orders on the 04 Roosies in MS68FB without a problem by the end of the month. 04 Roosies are a real interesting coin though - I have heard from at least (3) separate sources that MS68FB Roosies from the mint sets have been very, very difficult to locate and, indeed much more difficult a coin to locate than, say, an MS68 2004(d) Sac, which continues to trade at $300+. The dimes certainly get "less respect" at this point.

I'll know a heck of a lot more when the bulk deal I have been waiting for finishes up grading at PCGS.

Check the pop's... 2 graded 1 MS66 - 1 MS68FB. Right there you have your proof.. every other one graded will be a 68FB. Can't argue with the numbers. image

Dan, do you think that's how it really works?

Roosies are really hot...still after all this time with the FB designation, but I will stand firm on my point being that there will be a repeat of 1999-2003. Alot of MS68FB's

As far as what happened prior to 1999, I have no clue!

1997-P/D both have a pop of 2 in 68FB, while the 1998 have a combined pop or just 8 in 68FB.

I can't wait to see what Mitch's grades turn out to be, thats for sure.

No DT, I'm as confused as everyone else. But I can still crack a joke when I get this way.

An '03-D Lincoln in MS69RD on Teletrade sold recently for only $132 (and that must be artificially inflated as many here have asserted that there is much shill bidding on Teletrade).

    Edited to add:

Paul (SOG), without bumping this thread, here's the LINK to the $112.50 '03-D in 9RD you mention.

Then I guess RELLA (as seasoned as they come in Memorial Cent pricing) grossly overpaid when he just offered me $200 for one!! HaHa - I finally sold a Memorial Cent to RELLA for too much - you try doing that - it ain't easy!! image

Mitch weren't you selling SETS of 2003-P&2000-D MS69RD for around $200 last year (of course I might be confused)

  • Hey Paul,

I have a crappy spotted 1996 in MS-69 I bought on eBay make offer or bid on it I have it running right now.
  • Mitch when you have time tomorrow give me a call.

I have someone interested in buying ALL of my MS-70 Gold.

I want an opinion on market conditions.

Paul I see teletrade has a couple 2004-P ms68FB's coming up for auction. Makes your case look correct, but I'll watch them just the same. Dan. image

  • I'm doing silver Roosies in MS(no FBs) and PF right now but picking up high grade clads when I can as well. New issues are like that. People pay a ton for them as soon as they come out to get the points in their registries before anyone else does. Who knows, this piece could also go the other way and remain a 1/0 finest known in which case $109.50 seems like a steal.

MrPlatinum, I'm to assume that you are referring to the 1996 A.S.E. PCGS MS69 that I need that is is my sig line. What makes you think that I would want to buy a "Crappy spotted one?" I have been watching them for several months, possibly 6 months or more waiting for the price to fall, (Its been hovering around $100), and I will continue to wait, because I'm frugal with my $$$.

Do you know of anyone else selling one?
