1909 v.d.b. .....opinion on this auction

I noticed this coin on ebay and bid on it for my newly started Dansco Type Set. I was outbid. What are your opinions on this cent? I have considered increasing my bid, but...also thought I might let this one go by.

Thanks in advance.

Can you provide a link to the auction, or at least the item number?

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

I'd let it go myself......very common coin and I don't like the spot or the so called planchet defect at 9 o'clock. It doesn't look like a planchet defect to me, but rather damage.....but I am not an expert so????

    1909 VDB MS-63 Red (raw)

At that price, there's not much downside risk, but IMO, you were right not to get carried away on a raw eBay coin. That's an easy way to get burned. It can occasionally pay dividends, but it's almost like going to the roulette wheel. You'll "win big" occasionally, but the odds are rigged in favor of "the house" overall.
  • IMO, let it go. Too many problems with the coin.

I would pay a little more for a problem free one,and slabed.

These coins are always available . . . even 65s are relatively easy to obtain, and not too expensive. As a matter of experience . . .if a coin has a 'problem', your eye will always look there first . . .even 10 years from now. Eliminate the problem . . .go with a solid coin and leave the problems to those who want to bounce the coins around . . .

    supposedly a planchet defect...
The guy does have 100% positive feedback.

But I think I will let this pass. It will be interesting to see what he gets for it.

  • JamesW - Let it go! You can buy a nice PCGS MS64 RD for about $35 or so. If you want it in a Type Set album, crack it out! The one in this auction has too many problems.
