You really have to wonder if these people knew what they were bidding on!

Yeah. It's about a $300 coin or so. At least it was!

I dont see anything wrong with the item description, pretty self explanitory...Why so high?
  • From looking at the bid history it looks to me like a case of a person who decided he REALLY wanted the coin so he put in a rediculously high proxy bid to make sure he got it. Then four hours later another collector who felt the same way came along so he also put in a rediculously high proxy bid. Surprise it STILL wasn't enough. Second bidder said "OH MY GOD!!! Thank goodness!" and moved on. I've seen things like this happen before by snipers. At the last second two snipers enter super high bids to make sure that they get the item and that no one else has a chance to counterbid only to find out that they have to honor the crazy bid.

mis-read price guide...thought it was "red".....???? I saw that last night as I am looking for a nice two-center for a type set. Gave it a big double take!
  • That is a really happy seller.
I wonder if the winners will bail on him or not.
So will that skew all the price guides now.

I was watching this one too and wondered the same thing. I picked up an 1870 in the same grade and same brand of plastic about a year ago for around $270. I spotted this when it was well below market. I checked on it yesterday afternoon and saw it was over $400, which I thought was way too much. I never expected it to go any higher after that. I guess I was wrong. If anybody wants one, I'll sell mine for a 10% discount off that price. image

Hell, I'll sell my 1871 for that and it's an MS64RB in PCGS plastic.
