Graded Auto Question

Do you feel any more comfortable if an auto'd card is graded by a well known grading company?

I've noticed fake autos graded by a couple well known companies.

  • Are you talking about grading (BGS) or authentication (PSA/DNA)? Do you have any examples of fake autos in slabs?
  • Grading in Slabs not PSA/DNA authenticated. Seeing we were on the subject of those fake scoreboard autos, there have been other fake non scoreboard autos that have been "certified" and graded.

Speaking about autographed cards that did not come auto'd from the manufacturer, I would be more comfortable only if the card and autograph were PSA/DNA certified.

If the card was issued autographed, then the third-party grading/certification wouldn't be as important, since the card company "supposedly" stands behind the autograph's authenticity.

  • There is the "backdoor" issue where unsigned certified autographed cards all of a sudden get autographed, and there are also others that are "supposedly" from the manufacturer, but aren't.

I'd love to hear this one as well.
    Who is Rober Maris?
  • Basically it is just older cards like the scoreboard ones. Some of the forged signatures have ended up in holders by certain companies. Won't mention any names, but it's not PSA.

The Marino at the top (in my opinion) is "questionable". Someone suggested that because it was such a small "space" that is why I provided the "smaller" space signature. Granted he may have been "younger, in a hurry, bothered, etc when signed. But how do you make that determination when grading. I mean it does LOOK like his auto. I have an auto of his when he was promoing the Franklin sports stores his Rookie/2nd (?) year. His sig has not changed much through the years.

  • Aknot- It is my opinion that the 84 Marino autograph is an autopen signature. I received some Marino autographs through the mail in the 1980s and 1990s and they look very similar.
    Always looking for T59 Flags.
