Opinions wanted about plastic card sleeves

Hello all,
I want to purchase about 10,000 of the individual card sleeves sometime in the near future.

I've done some research on the internet, but I'd like to hear the opinions of other collectors about which and where to buy.

Ultra-Pro Platinum seem to get good reviews, but I wonder if it's worth it over some of the other brands out there. What is the advantage of the Platinum over their regular sleeves?

Also, which supplier should I purchase them from?

I see that Cardboard Gold has their own sleeves, as well as BCW supplies.

On a side note, I really wish there were sleeves available that had a pre-cut corner for easy insertion (no jokes please ; ).

Anyway, I'd like to hear from others about their experiences with the various card sleeves.

If you buy from a current online store you shouldn't have to worry about getting sleeves that are old, turn
yellow, or are cut improperly. Might I suggest you visit a local stroe and maybe pick up and try a few brands
before you make a huge buy like that? I think they are all safe now in regards to the plastic they use.

As far as the hard part...getting the cards in! I want to say that there is a brand that makes one side of the
penny sleeve a big longer....you might want to research that too.

I wish I could be more help. Good Luck

  • I purchased 10,000 sleeves from Cardboard Gold about 5 years ago. The price was right, but many of the sleeves were generally low quality with a wrinkled appearance. I have a bunch of the standard Ultra-Pro sleeves arriving today from this on-line supplier (AD Sports Cards). I'll let you know how they look tomorrow.

I agree with Kevin that the best way to make an informed decision is to get samples of sleeves from each major supplier. Perhaps if you sent them an SASE, they would send you a sample for free - it's worth a try.

    Adrian,

I just bought 10,000 penny sleeves from sportsmem4717 on ebay for $29.99...pretty happy with that price and they were delivered in 3 days.

I only buy sleeves from BCW because they are a little bigger than the ones sold by ULTRA PRO. I felt that the card could be damaged too easily w/ a smaller sleeve. BCW is pretty cheap - only 50 cents per 100 sleeves in quantities of 100 or more...

  • I prefer Ultra Pro, and I don't like Max. The former is a little more snug than its competitors, but that also means less movement, thus less card damage. If these are primarily used for card submissions, then I'd go with a less expensive brand.

Brother we have to much in common. I like the BCW sleeve also. A little disappointed on some of their screwdowns as it appears some of the "holes" for the screw was not finished. About 1 in every 50 which is probably acceptable....
