Yes, if PCGS can uniquely indentify it, they should cross it. It does not appear to have enough damage to warrant a bodybag.

  • I don't see any identifiable details at all ? Looks like a slug to me.
  • I wouldn't bother with something that looked as bad as that... The only way I'd want that slabbed was if it were a strawberry leaf variety. Just leave it as it is in an ANACS holder.

Good news here is that ANACS has authenticated (slabbed) the coin as a S-11b 1793 Wreath (it is not a netted coin). Rare.....no. Rare to find a Poor-1 coin that PCGS would slab - Yes (if it crosses). If it goes, it joins my PCGS PO01 graded 1793 Chain and 1793 Cap cents.

If it doesn't get bagged for "environmental damage" it's should be a slam dunk PO-01.

    But who knows?

I wouldn't even crack it out first.

JrGman2004, here's the Link. I may be #56 based on points but I'm #5 based on % complete (currently 64%, will be 70% by end of next months - then I'll be #4 in terms of % complete). Lots of Loooooooow grade coins.....set rating of 1.79 and sinking (I hope).

  • Cmon Our PCGS cheerleaders have asured us that ANACS always grades a point or two higher.

So it would grade 00 at best, maybe even a -01

Don't tell anyone, but I've actually had a coin in an ANACS MS62 holder that I cracked out and sent to PCGS. It came back a 63. image
  • Neat coin.

What's the motivation for wanting to cross it? Would it be worth significantly more in a PCGS holder? Is it for registry reasons?

At any rate, good luck with it - I'd love to own an old, historic coin like that one!

maybe if you dip it, you can reveal some of the original mint luster!
