Second Chance offer 72-P Type 2 MS65 Scam alert?!

Just a warning....there is a second-chance offer being issued for another 72-P Type 2 PCGS MS65
Ike Dollar. It has been offered to me and GrandAm that I know of....The message was the same
but they were from different people: coinexpress and coinshoppings.
Any one else get one of these?
Neither GrandAm of I think it is legit. Are we wrong?image

  • Did you try going to EBAY directly and search for the ID number from there?
That would eliminate a Phish spoof scam.
    Sounds suspicious to me too.
Unless someone happens to have a few of these (hard to believe, but some of you guys are hoarding them).

On second thought, with only 14 MS65's in the pop report, it's gotta be a scam of some kind.

Both coinexpress and coinshoppings ID's were created on the same day (Aug 01, 2004)
Both have a rating of (1).
The guy comes off like he is the seller.
Here is a copy of the email:

    Dear gandyjai,

You expressed interest in an item titled 1972-P PCGS MS65 TYPE 2 (Labeled) RARE Item number:
3924884543 by bidding, however the auction has ended with another member as the high bidder.
In compliance with eBay policy the seller makes this Second Chance Offer to you at your bid price.
The seller has issued this Second Chance Offer because either the winning bidder was unable to
complete the transaction or the seller has duplicate items for sale.
Note from seller: Hi, i can sell at your top bid price. Please let me know, Thanks.

If you get a legitimate Second Chance offer, it will be eBay that offers it to you!
  • Yes Ebay may initiate it if the seller requests it.
But if the seller takes off with your money and mails you a washer, ebay isn't going to help you any.

I responded that I was interested to see what would happen but the email bounced at his server:

The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was 'coinxpress@clovermail.net'. Subject 'Re: eBay Second Chance Offer', Account: 'KeithnJen Charter', Server: 'mail.chartermi.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '550 #5.1.0 Address rejected.', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

Rats, I really needed a type 2 in '65. image

Just a heads up on my part: I have one coin and it sold.

I have not yet heard from the buyer, but I'm assuming it's sold.

Any second chance offer at this point in time is BOGUS.

If another is available it's via grandam!

  • That figures, send the obverse photo and not the reverse, nor the PCGS slab photo which would be better.

  • Hi all! I was watching this auction and was surprised by the hammer price. Can someone enlighten me as to why this coin goes for so much? I know the Type 1 and 2 in the '76 Ike - is the '72 the same idea? They must be rare in MS, apparently.

    I would appreciate any insight!

    Thanks, Mike

    Hi,
$1700 was your top bid. This is your total, postage/insure included. Paypal.
Please confirm and paypal details will be forwarded, Thank You.

I'm still talking to this guy. I asked for the serial number and whether it is attributed by PCGS (which should lead directly to asking for
a picture of the slab so I can see that it says "Type 2").

What can I say, I'm bored.

I've got him to send me his PayPal address. I would like
to see if PayPal is interested in the fact they are being used as a vehicle in a for
    a fraudulent transaction.
Can any of you other guys get a PayPal address from him too?
He has several different email addresses and eBay user ID's......I was just wondering
if he has more than one PayPal address set up or not.
You can PM them to me and I'll include them in my report to PayPal.
    Thanks in advance!image

Yes. Seller had sent payment to my old e-mail. Coin is sold and shipped.

I'm on a very slow computuer or I would work the scam some myself.

Anything I can do to help anyone pursuing the scam artist, I'll be glad to do.
