Morgan Dollars

Besides the 1879 CC, 1889 CC, and 1893 CC, what other Carson City Morgans would be good to invest in, in order of preference?

  • Personally I think that the three dates you sighted are about as high priced as they can be right now - I would think in a market downturn they would lose a significant portion of their value. CC dollars are always in demand, and if you look carefully, sometimes you can find some good deals in the generic dates where the condition of the coin is very good. It all depends on how they're priced when you're ready to buy.

Any date (at the right price) in a GSA holder with the original box and certificate.

If you are more of an "investor", I wouldn't touch any of those right now.
  • I'm kind of looking for info on what dates from Carson City are possible sleepers. I cannot afford the dates I gave above, but would like to make a good purchase of aCC Morgan or two.

I'd say if you're hell bent on getting some CC dollars - look through the inventory of some dealers who might have some GSA dollars available and pick yourself out a couple in nice condition. If you can get them at the "generic" rate of $150-175 you'll be doing really well.
