I've been collecting since I was 6 years old, and I've never owned a gold coin...until now.

Here it is (PCGS AU-58):

    Beautiful!

You will be pleased to know that the other $10 gold piece you saw (1879-S) was also an NGC AU-58 that I bought from ANR Auctions.

I don't know. It was always one of those "some day..." things.

But recently, I shifted my focus in collecting toward certified AU-58 type, and this one came available. The hit on the cheek made me stop for a moment, but otherwise, I love the color and luster on this one and I had to pull the trigger -- especially since I'm selling some of my other coins to raise money toward this type set.

For what it's worth, I've been pricing gold online for the last couple weeks, and for the most part PCGS is smoking something on their price guides. You can't get nice gold for *close* to what their price guide shows. Since I only paid about 8% above what they say is the "going rate" (which is bogus to begin with), I think it was a pretty good buy, especially given the overall eye appeal of this coin. I'm really stoked about it. I finally have some gold! image

  • ya mean the price guide is close on something ?
just bought a dime for 25% of guide

We're not going to get into crucifixion on a cross of gold, are we? image

(Though I have a great-great uncle named William Jennings Bryan, so maybe I should be careful!)
  • That's a beauty! I'm a sucker for gold in all forms.
