I am looking for a Trade dollar for my type set, and because of counterfeiting, I am determined to buy one slabbed by NGC or PCGS. i do not know much about this series and because I'm just another YN with no moneyimage, i wouldn't want to buy one and find out 3 months later that it's fake. I would just like to know what i should expect to pay for an XF common date. Thanks

jim

    Jim,

Around here you can pick up a decent certified (PCGS, NGC) trade dollar with nice surfaces for about 135.00-150.00. On a typical common date, you should be able to pay just slightly higher than if it were raw, and the cert fee will have already been absorbed by a previous owner/seller.

If you dont know them, best to buy one certified as you mentioned as thier are many counterfiets around. There have been two recently in this area alone that were purchased by shop owners.

I agree. And there are some very pleasing VFs out there with great surfaces.
  • Don't forget about ANACS, I picked up a nice MS-62 for 220.00. You should be able to find a XF in the 85 - 110 range, of course it depends on the date as well. Hope that helps.

I have been looking to buy a certified trade dollar in EF for my type set as well. Have been looking on ebay for the past week or so. The redbook lists common dates at $145. I have seen the go between 160 and 190 depending on the slab.

    Good luck on your search.
  • Do you want chopmarks or not? That could affect the value I assume.

  • I would actually prefer chopmarks

You might even be able to get it cheaper then not sure though. I know some people charge a premium for them and some consider it a damaged coin.
