Peace $'s: ANACS to PCGS X-OVERS are in...

I had 2 raw 1934-S peace dollars I had slabbed by ANACS last spring, figured I'd do a crossover to PCGS to fill a hole in my registry set until I find the right one. These were crossovers, not crackouts.

Was: 1934S ANACS-AU53 Now: AU53
Was: 1934S ANACS-AU58 Now: AU55

Thought the 53 would end up a 50, and the 58 would stay at 58, but PCGS is always full of surprises! I'll probably resubmit the AU55 once it comes back for a regrade and see if there was any bias towards ANACS coins.

This was a Silver Submission and took only 18 calendar days! QUICK!!!

I'd say you did very well. In the market, the PCGS AU55 would probably bring more money in the PCGS 55 holder than it would in a ANACS 58 holder. I wouldn't spend another $30 on it.

Yep, I agree. The lower grade PCGS would bring in more then the ANACS higher grade, based on what I've seen out there also. There's a PCGS AU55 out on ebay right now, and it looks like a XF when matched up with the one I have. I actually have a ton of $$$ into this coin, based on a dealer selling it to me and guaranteeing it was MS. When it came back the first time as AU58, he said "all sales are final" needless to say I have not purchased another coin from him and I have done a lot of LEARNING since! I'm thinking if it was in a PCGS 58 holder it would somewhat justify my purchase!!!

Well, that sounds like a dealer I wouldn't want to deal with. Kind of like another very long thread we have going here, a lot of these guys are looking to stick people with coins and then not stand behind them.

Sounds like the "all sales are final" guy sold you a slider 34S. It's still a very desirable coin, and if it has a nice look, then it may surprise you when you sell it one day.

These crooked dealers are pretty funny..... They always state "grading is an opinion" when this happens, but then every slabbed coin in their case is at a premium price at the assigned grade! I guess the only thing to do, is learn to grade yourself and if you're not 100% stick with the grading firms that will stand behind the coin!

They are funny, since their opinions hardly ever work out in your favor.

    Bingo!

Just look at as many coins as you can, read a lot and be persistent. One day your eye will start to "click".

I learn the hard way I guess, Gotta watch out for those super sliders! I've been staying away from the raw coins since this all went down, which is a bummer since I like this aspect of collecting. I've had a couple coins work out, the AU53 coin listed above was bought from a differnt dealer stating it was around XF, maybe AU and sold it to me at XF40 money. Thinking if its over a certain amount, I've got to stay away and stick to the slab.

Good idea, just have the discipline to stay with it, and not be tempted by that one raw coin that will probably prove too good to be true.

    Later!
