Question about budget and sets...Opinions please.

mrpaseomrpaseo Posts: 4,753 ✭✭✭
Currently my Budget is only $50 dollars a month for coins.

My question is, what set could I enjoy building on this budget.

Lets not stop there, given different price ranges, what is a good set/grades to build. Please include coin qt in set, grades and average price per coin.

ie. (Lincoln Memorials, 94 coins in Basic set, average price per coin in MS66 is about 50 dollars.)

Problem with this is with 94 coins, with an average of 1 coin per month...I'm looking at 7.8333333333333 years to complete the set image

Lets go with:

Under 100 per month
100-250 per month
250-500 per month
500-1000 per month
Over 1000 per month

Give one, give all, what works or has worked for you?

Thanks for all your input,
Ray

Russ, i like that set, have never considered it. Any information on price ranges for grades?

MadMarty, I have one of those comming sometime in the near future image

100Proof1957, well, at this point, everything image I've been working, passivly on a circulated Merc set, nothing great, but something low budget that I had a few of already. My passion was Lincolns but they are pricey and there are alot of them image My Lincolns will be worked on VERY slowely but I was looking for something that would cost between 50-100 per coin and had under say 30 coins. Looking in the MS66 range or the PR69 range image

100Proof, only 20 coins in the set, I have always loved the design, who doesn't image What is the price range per coin (Averaged).

    Thanks,
    Ray
  • I just finished a 1959 - 1998 Whitman Folder of BU Lincolns all for less then $50. I also finished a BU Whitman Folder set of Kennedies from 1964 - 1985 for about $150. A set of Canadian Maple Leaves ( proof or mint state silver ) I think would look great and I would like to put one together myself someday.

As for slabbed material, Russ` suggestion is good. Also a Walker Short Set ( 1941 - 1947 ) in eye appealing MS64 can be done also.

The cool thing about the Proof Kennedy Short Set is that you can build it in any price range you're comfortable with from dresser change to mortgage money. You can even, if you're patient and willing to work at it, build a high ranked set by hunting down the coins raw and submitting them yourself. A complete set can be done for as little as a few hundred dollars or as much as $40,000.

In other words, it's a set for poor people and rich people alike. image
