  • The Admiral Gardner Shipwreck, (Aka sea salvage) Madras Presidency 10 cash.

Looks to about AU or UNC, but I cannot give you a conclusive answer. I got a AU ten and twenty cash for 13 dollars on Ebay.

Thanks HG. The coin is at least AU. There is lustre remaining. I think I did OK on it. The coin cost me 4c

  • British India Madras Presidency KM#319 or 320, not necessarily from the Admiral Gardner wreck. Both are 25.8mm copper. 319 is 6.47g and 320 is only 4.66g. The entry in Krause (p. 701, 19th Century 3rd Ed.) says that nice salvaged and cleaned examples from the Admiral Gardner are very common, and the placement of the comment seems to indicate that it only applies to the lighter variety. Krause values both 1908 varieties at $1.75 F/$6 VF/$45 XF/$250 Unc./$90 proof. The heavy variety was minted in 1803 and 1808 and the light only in 1808. Also in 1808 there were silver, gilt gold, and gold versions. Unless there is more luster than I see in the pictures, I wouldn't grade it above XF.
