Well,
I've moved houses and finally got around to moving safe deposit boxes as well.
I had boughten the entire set of Proof SAEs for my son to grow into.
Some in person, some on ebay, and most recent from the mint.
Well, I didn't check them all that carefully when I got them (ie...I looked at them, made sure they weren't scratched, made sure I didn't get a "Catfish/Poe58 special", and didn't remove them from their plastic holders.).
That bit me in the butt today I found out. Luckily it didn't happen on the more expensive ones.
What happened? Simply put....prior owner (or mint) HAD opened the plastic holder. There was a small piece of some kind of foreign object sitting on the eagles left wing that interacted with the silver into 2 small, brown, ugly (I mean....beautiful if anyone wants to buy it ) circles.
I've never dipped a coin before, especially scared of a proof.....is this something that can be removed safely and nicely?
Should I just rebuy one?
Anyone willing to help out that has dipped these safely and knows what they are doing?

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Russ, NCNE
I kept them under 50kb each.
The arrows point toward the "toning"....it is hard to see on a black/white dcam bullion coin though
In hand, it sticks out just as if someone had taken an old ink blotting pen and dropped a piece of ink on a white piece of paper....

<< <i>TTT for the morning crew and to see if anyone can post instructions on dipping a SAE Proof....... >>
Dip that sucker!!!!
Dilute Jeweluster with 50% water.
Put a drop of the diluted solution directly on the spot with a q-tip. DON'T SCRUB. Don't leave it on for more than a few seconds.
Dip the enitre coin for an instant, then rinse immediately in warm water for about 1 full minute. Make sure you rotate the coin in your fingers so you wash all parts of the edge.
Now rinse the coin in 90% or better isopropyl alcohol and dab dry with cotton. DON'T SCRUB.
You're done. Let the coin come to room temperature before packaging since the coin will be really cold at this point. (from the quick alcohol evaporation)
If there is a whitish haze where the spot was, you cannot remove it. It's microscopic pitting where the surface was oxidized. I doubt you'll see this with your spot.
I'm guessing you'll be happy with the results. Good luck!
I will have to give that a try.
I really appreciate the step by step instructions you gave.
