Does ANACS have the CLEAREST PLASTIC?

I would like to have a photography expert use a light meter behind some crackouts of the different slabs.

I was looking at some coins today and noticed that my ANACS coins were the real attention grabbers.

Closer inspection made me realize that the coins were BRIGHTER in the ANACS holders.

So I tilted the slabs to catch light on the SURFACE of the plastic.

NGC is almost CORRUGATED.
PCGS is smoother but still textured.
ANACS has SOME texture, but all in all is SMOOTHER on the surface. They seem to be CLEARER. Now this could be the composition also, but may just be the surface polish.

Try it and see.

If any of you have some crackouts and a light meter, I would be interested to see a test of the highest light reading THROUGH the plastic of each holder.

The PCGS "rattlers" come close to the ANACS, but still not quite as bright.

I don't know, but has anybody else noticed that NGC seems to have changed their plastic...I don't know if "corrugated" is the word...I kind of like it for some reasonimage

I've seen a lot more cracked ANACS slabs. Don't know if the slab is thinner or the plastic isn't as dense.

I agree ANACS has the best plastic, the NGC and PCGS slabs can be hard to get close up pictures on sometimes because of the lines in the plastic and to a certain extent it does kind of put a fog over the coin. mike

    i agree w/ your assessment 100%.

strangely, it seems that the really old pcgs slabs that were like acg slabs had the clearest plastic.

  • I've personally photographed over 100,000 coins. In my opinion, PCGS has the clearest slabs, then NGC. I've found that ANACS holders have a cloudy look to them and I don't get as sharp as photograph with them as I do the other holders.

    Just my opinion.

otoh, i have never photo'd even a single coin in a slab, so i defer to photoman. however, based strictly on what my eye sees (as opposed to the camera), it just seems like anacs slabs have the least distortion.

i would say that segs may be the least clear, again, to my eye only,.
