Roll Call, Florida

Well, this was a bad one and I hope our collecting family is OK? I would like to take this time to say a prayer for all those devastated by the hurricane and I wish you the best. Please let us know how you are doing?

  • I'm in DeLand, right in the path of the storm. Fortunately, by the time it got to us it was down to a Category 1 storm. We spent all morning picking up branches and twigs out of the yard, but that's it. We got our power back at noon and the cable shortly after that. Our thoughts are with all of those people in SW Florida.
I was watching CNN earlier, and the weather person said that as of right now, the forecast track for Tropical Storm Danielle "looks a lot like Charley" image

Luckily for us that one turned and headed East. It would have been bye bye town if it had stayed on it’s original course. And I am especially happy that my neighbor decided NOT to take anything out of their yard that might fly around during a storm. That keeps my record at being in only one major storm. Until next time. And there will always be a next time in Florida.
  • Jacksonville was fairly calm. I wasn't nearly as bust at work today as I had expected. I did, however, volunteer to go down to South Florida to help restore services there. I'm on call, and will head out on Tuesday if called.

yes about 2 blocks away...actually there were huge trees uprooted two blocks in either direction of my
parents house. The one pictured is so amazing because it took half the driveway with it. Another huge oak
was not only uprooted, but was moved by the wind, several yards. In the picture shown there is actually
a white grand am underneth that only sustained side view mirror damage. The tree was about 10 feet
from hitting the house. All the major damage seemed to be in pockets. Keep in mind the winds here
were only 60-80mph and they were double that when it made landfall! Thats quite a powerful hurricane.
We just got power a few hours ago...now I have to figure out how to get 30 pounds of soil out of a swimming
    pool!

Ill try to post more pics later.

Where in Jax did the tornados hit?
  • pandrewspandrews Posts: 7,598 ✭✭✭
2 more.. you cant really tell what the top one is, but the big black round thing just to the left of the red brick house is the base/roots/dirt that was dug up.. the top of the tree is out of the picture..

    Kevin,

My family lives in the south (Boynton Beach and Boca Raton) so they were lucky that they didn't get hit hard.
  • It turned and went just east of us here in Savannah GA

We didn't get much of anything here in Fernandina Beach.I have seen northeasters much worse than what we had.I too would like to send out a prayer to all those that had losses.

    We were very lucky!!!!

  • Just back on line.

All are OK, but narrowly escaped the worst of the storm (15 miles from the center). It made land fall 25 miles north of my house and was headed for us but made a miracle turn at the last minute. It was touch and go at my place at about 3PM last Friday.

God bless the people just north of us. I am a veteran of disaster response operations, but this was really bad.

More to tell when I get the time. Will get you some pics soon.
