lightsider's Darkside purchase today

This arrived today, and I'm delighted. I've been looking for a mostly bright one with lustre for quite a while, to put into my U.S. silver dollar type set. This one is much brighter and more lustrous than it looks here.

PCGS says the mintmark is MM, but shouldn't it be MO?

PCGS does correctly identify the mint as Mexico City. The additional "MM" represents the initials of the mint masters. Manuel de la Pena (1733-63) and Manuel Assorin (1754-70) had overlapping terms. KM#105 is only one of dozens of 18th Century Mexican coins with double initials.

The mint mark is on the obverse, to the left of the date. The mint master initials are on the reverse, on the other side of the shield from the denomination.

Welcome to the darkside Dennis. Now that you've been inoculated with the virus you'll never be the same boring litesider.image

    Thanks for the comments guys!

Actually, I've been quietly sneaking over to the darkside for several years as I've become aware and lustful of particular coins that appeal to me. This latest acquisition made me take a look at what I have in my PCGS foreign box and I was pleasantly surprised to find 17 in all! It was fun too look at them again.

Bill -- what is that gorgeous item you use in your signature area? Is it a coin or a medal?

Excellent coin, Dennis! Nice to have you over here.

I believe Bill's sig coin is a Conder token. He avidly collects coins with lions or eagles on them, among other interests. Check out his website!
