My New SLQ

MrSpudMrSpud Posts: 4,499 ✭✭✭
Hi,
I wanted to share some pics of my new Type 1 SLQ. One pic of the obverse shows the details better, the other pic shows a close approximation of the color but with a bit of glare from the slab which blunts the detail a bit, the third is of the reverse. I have been looking for a nice one of these for a while now and finally picked one up down in Florida last weekend at a shop in Dunedin that I saw was recommended by someone on this forum. It is in an ANACS slab. Anybody care to guess what grade it is? Thanks for looking.

That one is nice! I don't know to much about these, so grade may be way off but I'd venture a guess at 64?

    Stunner! image

    I'll go with a true AU58.

No, the ANACS label doesn't say cleaned. I can see why you'd think so from my pics though. I think that's because I used poor lighting conditions. Both sides actually look sort of album toned, you can see pretty much what the actual color looks like on the pic with the glare on the slab. I should of waited until tomorrow until I could use natural light. Or maybe I should try and rig up one of those 45° glass things.

58, maybe FH notation but can't see well enough from the pics. If mint state, 63 or better.

Forgot about the head. It appears to be full but can't be sure from the pics.

I'll still go with AU58 and a Full Head!

    Here's a pic of the slab label. It's a MS62FH.

Huh. Any idea why 62? I don't see that much in the way of marks, not that a picture will show them anyhow half the time. How is the luster in hand? I think it's a nice coin based on the images you gave.

In hand the coin has nice luster and has an even rim toning that fades to white as you go to the center of the coin. I'm not sure why ANACS only gave it a 62. I remember hearing that they do straight technical grading without taking eye appeal into consideration. I'm not sure if that is true or not, but if it is, perhaps they considered the toning to be a technical negative?

Before I read the grade revealing post, I was going to say MS62FH. Reason being that bit of friction on the left (facing) leg. This area is probably the #1 focal point for the type, and can make a difference of two points in a hurry.
