Here's a new 1880/79-O Morgan Dollar in PCGS MS-62 which I have just purchased to add to my collection & registry set from a very nice fellow forum member. image

She seems to have very nice Semi-PL surfaces and some cameo contrast, although the contrast is very difficult to discern from the scan. What do you think about her??

Tough variety, and it sure looks PL doesn't it?
    When in doubt, don't.

Dennis: It looks at least Semi-PL to me with some cameo attributes, and may be very close to PL...

Thanks Gemini! I have been very fortunate to have located some nice quality Morgans recently to upgrade some coins and also to fill some holes in my colelction.

I will be "pruning" through my Morgan Collection to pick out and sell (BS&T) some of the coins which have now become duplicates (and triplicates, etc image) to transition it from a large quantity accumulation of coins into a smaller collection more focused on higher-quality coins.

As promised, I am pleased to report that today I received my New 1880/79-O PCGS MS-62 Morgan Dollar from a fellow forum member, and I am VERY pleased with it!!! image

It's a very nice problem-free coin with no major contact marks for an MS-62. The coin has near-miss shallow mirror Prooflike surfaces, and looks like an MS-63 PL to me with nice cameo contrast on both the obverse and reverse devices. image

One added benefit to having a PL overdate, is that the PL fields help make the overdate stand out more noticeably from the polished fields. image

I'll try to take some new pictures of it within a week or two when I get some spare time for photography.
