Is Heritage nuts on the price of this Two Center, or am I missing something?

1871 PCGS MS64RB Two Cent at $705.

That seems quite high. Anybody else think so?

In these days, many dealers quote MS64 coin with MS65 price image

I can't even get into Heritage's site right now. If it's a coin they're selling, and not an auction, yes they're probably nuts. I've noticed that they tend to ask much more than current trends, sometimes twice what trends are. I've also noticed on the majority of the coins they sell, they leave out information such as recent prices realized and the little chart that shows current retail and whole prices.

Yeah, Heritage is out to get me. They shut the site down for maintenance right after I posted the thread.

Anyway, the coin doesn't appear to be anything special. Just a nice average MS64RB. But, they want a hell of a lot more for it then I paid for mine. Well, sort of. I bought mine for $355 as an MS63RB and got it upgraded to MS64RB as a quarterly freebie. I'm thinking if anybody is actually paying $700 for these I could unload it and buy some more worthless moderns. image

I saw that coin in a recent auction, and that does seem to be out of whack.

ALTHOUGH, it is a tougher date to find decent, no spots or apparent problems, some pretty lilac irridescence.........

Still not worth $700 to me. A premium maybe, but not that much.

The link worked for me, Russ; I also think the price is out of line on the high side.

Seems a bit high, although 71 is a good date and there does seem to be a lot of red on that coin.

I'd like to see a few hundred dollars lower.
  • I was just looking at that coin before I came over here and when I saw the price I laughed out loud and woke the girlfriend up!

In this particular case they do have the recent auction data posted. The price is typical of most of their buy now items.

That coin sure doesn't look like it is worth the nearly 100% premium they are asking.

Here's another example of an inflated price. A 55D Washington PCGS MS66. And this one doesn't even include a picture, just a description that says "Enhanced by original toning". Will the value of the 55D in 66 ever get to this level, maybe, but then again maybe not. I wouldn't touch it, personnally.
