Is the rule of thumb that a card should ony be submitted to a player registry as long as it was during the playing years? This makes since to me, but I'm curious.. Thanks Guys

Sometimes there are some exceptions made for year after/before. For example, the Schmidt Registry includes his 1972 PR League sticker, his 1990 Upper Deck Commemorative, and the 1990 Topps, Topps Tiffany and OPC TBTC cards. He retired on May 29, 1989. 1989 Fleer Update Commemorative is also included.
MS is right on (as usual)... all active playing years plus one (the year following retirement as cards have career stats)... Nolan Ryan retired in '93, and the Master Set goes up to '94... Micky Mantle retired in '68, but his set goes up to '69.. and so and so forth.
