Are 1969 4 in 1 cards slabable?

And how tough are they to find?

Baseball 4-in-1s are very tough. Football 4-in-1s are not tough at all. On eBay, for instance, you might find 5 to 10 baseball 4-in-1s listed in a given year (if you are lucky). Football you should not have any trouble picking up a full set (21 auctions on eBay right now).

The 1969 Baseball 4-in-1s were not inserts, but were issued on an extremely limited basis in their own test pack (3 cards per pack).

1969 Football 4-in-1s were inserts into the regular issue packs. Condition is also much more problematic for the baseball issue since the glued backing tended to seep through and discolor the front. I am not sure how much this discoloration lowers the grade.

    Hope this helps!
    Bob

Edited to add: Mickeys Sportscards has a beautiful selection of these cards at reasonable prices.

they are slabbable. baseball and hockey are much tougher to find than football and much more condition sensitive. baseball were sold as a test. hockey were sold as inserts in opc packs. football was sold as inserts ( I believe but not as familiar)I believe in topps packs which is why they are much easier to find.

by the way bobs pack is awesome!!!!!! there was one with an open pack on ebay recently that went for $350+ . much higher than I anticipated since the top was opened and you were taking the sellers word for it. if a gai 4n1 pack ever came up , the sky is the limit

    Brian:

Indeed they are - my set produced a PSA 9 Rose and some PSA 8s and 7s of the HOFers. That being said - I have the balance of the set (17 or so of 25), available for sale/trade. It is largely EX/MT or better - with some one-off centering or minor staining issues, as is so common with the set. If you're interested, pop me an e-mail.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

  • Bob seems to be a walking encyclodepia on cards and inserts and I know that is a specialty for him. The only thing that I can add is that fro the FB inserts (4 in 1), they are on a remarkably thick peice of cardboard and I suspect have condition-wise held up very well. I suspect that the pop report would back this up if your interested in the data. I would guess that high condition examples are still available raw from the FB set.

Wanted: Bell Brands FB and BB, Chiefs regionals especially those ugly milk cards, Coke caps, Topps and Fleer inserts and test issues from the 60's. 1981 FB Rack pack w/ Jan Stenerud on top.
  • These are very slabable .... As has been stated here by others these cards are extremely difficult to find much less in high grade. (Marc I am still kicking myself for not buying your PSA 9's and 8's when you offered them to me a long time ago.) Although I have not seen any centering problems with raw cards ... The Staining has been my biggest issue when trying to find raw cards to grade. I would estimate about 30-40% of the raw cards I have loked at have had staining issues..... If any one is interested in starting a set I have some PSA 8's and 7's available.... Along with some ST cards and I am looking for a Cannizzaro/Hendley/WS GAme 5/Yanks Rookies and a Yaz/Nossek/Petrocelli/Cards Rookies in PSA 8 NQ or better to finish my set....

come on Marc! You know I only do modern cards in PSA 9 or 10 holders. I stopped collecting lower grad stuff around 1979 but thanks! You never got back to me after our phone con.
