    The sad part is:

    1) 3 boxes are already gone.
    2) For 25 dollars more you could get a factory sealed box and pull 4 GU/auto instead of 0

If I had money and the time I would buy the whole case and then show up at this guys house and rip it
in front of him. What do you think the look on his face would be if you ripped 240 packs and didn't pull
one insert when the odds are 1:4 packs to do so?

When I go into a shop and I suspect that the packs have been searched I always like to see the dealers
reaction when I proceed to rip all the packs in front of him and pull nothing....I can just see them squirming,
thinking that no one person would rip them all at once.....I can hear them praying that I pull something. There
was a dealer here who searched SPA back in 99, I opened up 32 packs and didn't pull anything and I called him
a searcher right in the middle of his shop. He had some customers in there and I could tell he was feeling
about an inch tall.....I later found out that he did search them and that he had a scale in his back room.

Someone email this guy and say they want to buy all the boxes and then find out where the guy lives and ask
him if you could buy them and then come over and pick them up. I would love to see his reaction!

Thanks for the link to that site, snowball. I lost it when I had to reformat my PC.
    Who is Rober Maris?
  • What I don't get is... How do these guys stay on Ebay? How many complaints and negatives does it take before they kick a guy off????

You'd think it would be in thier best interest to do so over the long term.

You know I could see this happening, he really did buy a case of boxes, and the boxes have been opened.
But after looking at his feedback there, he has been doing this for a long time. That's one person that
I would never buy any packs or boxes off. Even if he came out and said they were factory sealed. I have
heard of people taking the factor seal plastic and wrapping boxes back up.
  • As long as your total feedback does not fall to -4 then they will not kick you off for feedback issues. It is like a NPB they can get negs all day long, but if the seller does not file the FVF credit then Ebay does nothing to them.. The buyers need to file the Non-performing seller on the seller in order for an official complaint to be logged.

Honestly though I don't see what is so wrong with his feedback. Most likely this auction is a fraud, but I have bought cases from dealers before where the boxes were damaged and had to be repackaged pulled some great cards out of it. This seller has a 99.6% FB score with over 10,00 with nearly 20K feedback recieved that is pretty good.. If you are on Ebay long enough then you are going to get negs.

Want to see some real negs from a major seller look at JayandMarie, but despite all the negs I buy from them without a hitch

I don't think you looked hard enough...you had to go through like 1000 feedbacks to find the negatives and all
of them had to do with him selling searched boxes. This is certainly a scam, he thinks that by selling smaller
lots he can get away with selling 24 boxes that have nothing in them. Kinda like pacific in their one pack
over a box odds....36 pack boxes with odds like 1:37 and 1:73....as a buyer that tells me they don't want to
    give me anything.

I've bought from them many times. Even at nearly 2000 negatives, they are still 99.0+ % FB rating, and that does not take into account multiple purchases from the same buyer that go off without a hitch, or the fact that their products (CDs/DVDs) attract a lot of idiots/neophytes who leave unwarranted negs. So you've your odds are less than 1 in 100 that you'll have a bad experience with them.

Wow - what a rotten scam that is, and you have to wonder if there are people buying those boxes and packing them out at local shows. JS is right however, $60 a box? That isn't much less than a real box, which I saw at a show yesterday for $73. If you are going to sell searched and filtered crap, at least apply the searched and filtered crap discount (95%).

73 a box..WOW thats an amazing price. Charm city had then at 85 if you bought 3 or more and now they
are sold out and will most likely lower. I would buy at 73 if I could find them at that price.

I bought one on EBAY for 75.00

That was cheap ($73), cheaper than my case price per box - I would imagine the dealer sells out before the end of the weekend show.

  • Ctsox:
Did you see them at the east coast national? If so,what did you think of the show? I think that show gets worse every year.
  • ctsoxfanctsoxfan Posts: 6,246 ✭✭
Yes, that is exactly where I saw them...and you are right - the show was hardly a "National". It was the same Rothstein show that is held there four times a year, with basically the same dealers, only the show runs longer. Not much vintage, mostly modern GU/Auto type cards, and even those were being sold primarily dealer to dealer (at least on Thurs when I was there).

PSA and GAI were there (both tables were basically empty), and a few dealers had decent wax prices - but overall, if I didn't live so close to the show, I wouldn't have bothered. And, I still can't believe they charge $12 admission and $4 parking for the privilege of shopping there...

This is a great thread - and highlights how unscrupulous many dealers are. This guy should just say that the boxes are searched and be done with it. Having said that, this auction also shows the importance of READING the auction. I've been guilty of not reading closely and have gotten burned. I just returned a card to a dealer who pulled this scam:

He puts a photo on E-Bay of a mint 1959 Topps football card and in his description says the card is in "Excellent" condition. He was right - when I received the card, it was in "excellent" condition - meaning PSA 5 quality. I sent an e-mail to the dealer showing a copy of the photo on the auction and a photo of the card I received and said that I hadn't bargained for receiving the "ugly sister" of the card posted in the auction. He refuned my money saying that his "daughter" sent out the wrong card.

I settled for my money back. The auction was a scam - because upon further review of the picture in the auction, you can tell the card was cropped from a PSA graded card. The funny thing is this guy is a Powerseller. Go figure...
