Does anyone care for these? 1955/55 DDO Cent

stmanstman Posts: 11,352 ✭✭✭✭✭
Finally got one of these bad boys. I've been wanting (and looking) for one that I felt was appealing for quite some time. This one seemed to be rather handsome. Please post yours, and feel free to give grade opinions as well. This piece has that rather attractive blue tone to it also.
Enjoy!!

Very nice, still holding a little red to it too image

Lets see, given the toning and luster of this bad boy I'm going to say MS66BR but I'm no professional.

  • No grading agency has rated any of these higher than MS65. (NGC has a MS66RD, but was purchased as a 65RD). This one looks like a RB, but MS64 at best. My guess is MS64RB. Nice coin. Popular, and there are quite a few you could grab. MS65RB are still available at less than $8000.

    lloydmincy,

I'd be shocked if it were listed as RB though it could be 64 due to hits.

If it's PCGS it likely grades 65BN although I wouldn't be too surprised if it made RB because there is some original color left (although not quite 5% by the way the photos look).

That's a great looking 1955 DDO! Lots of frost and underlying color, most of the 65s for sale aren't this nice so I can understand why you held out.

I used to own this NGC 65RB:

  • Very nice DDO!!! I don't have one, but did get rid of a 1995 DDO recently on EBay for a small profit after holding to two years. Hope you keep yours for many years and sell one day in the future for $1-million.

64BN Stman? Whatever the grade, it's great looking - congratulations!

Thanks guys. And thanks to those who posted their coin or former coin as well. I really appreciate the "look" of this piece with the mint red still remaining around the devices, and that pretty blue tone. Kind of a tough one to grade from an image, as there is a bit more chatter
in person, that the image doesn't depict.

I'll try and get "NEW PICTURESimage" some other time. This coin certainly has the look and luster of a gem though.

He means that it outta be a higher grade!
  • stmanstman Posts: 11,352 ✭✭✭✭✭
I kind of thought so, but if it had been a higher grade I would not have been able to purchase it. I stretched for this one as it was.

    Very nice coin.

Not long ago,I owned one of these in a PCGS 64 RB holder.

I sold it because the eye sight started going bad and I could not see the doubling easy,It was to dark.

The next time I get one,it will have to be at least XX RD so i'll be able to see it better.

    Still,your coin looks very nice.

Such a grade is totally out of my league for this coin, stman, so thanks for showing it to us - really is a very PQ piece! image

    Solid looking MS-63BN!

I seem to remember the price too. It was a solid (strong) price too.

Quality is NOT cheap. It pays.

Short term you might worry about the price you paid. Long term - no brainer. Just put it away and keep it long term.

    <<YOU GOT ROBBED! >>

"Please explain. I don't get it."

I shouldn't have said you got robbed, but that the guy who first submitted the coin got robbed. For a coin with that much luster, I'm shocked that it didn't grade at least 64 despite the hits.

    Fantastic pickup!
