speaking of e-topps....i read the message boards over there and they keep speaking of the Aaron debacle. anyone have any idea what happened??? i would ask over there but i dont feel like registering for ANOTHER message board. i waste too much time on these as it is!!! image
I am on a budget and I am not afraid to use it!!
  • Always love JS's posts about how bad etopps is doing. All I know is that just from IPO purchases from basketball, football, hockey, and classic football my port has doubled in value, if we factor in the 01 rookies I accumulated such as Chad Johnson and Koren, well you can figure out the math. If you bought heavy in 02 then you lost on etopps, I didn't start until fall of 2003 so I got in at the perfect time. There is a lot of more activity with etopps now after the National and with football season starting up look for another increase in the program.

What happened with the Aaron card was that a lot of people were shut out on their IPO orders, myself included. They screwed up on the allocation process where some people got more then 1 aaron but several other people didn't get any. Etopps made up for it by giving us 8 reward points for each port you ordered out of and got shut out. Not bad for getting 8 reward points for free which basically evens out to $15.00 worth of cards. JS, I look forward to your response to this but I have made a ton of more money on etopps then most people are with cardboard cards. Nothing against cardboard since I did love the heritage 04 set you reccomended. I ended up getting lucky with that Banks auto /25 so I will always like the heritage set.

Have you actually cashed out or are you talking about an increase in portfolio. On the cardboard issue - I won't argue with you - perhaps CU should split into two groups - investors and collectors - in 1996 I stopped looking at my collection as an asset and sleep a lot better. It's just plain fun to look and talk about.
On eTopps - I just funnin on the pic - but I have some friends who feel they have been truly taken advantage of by Topps.

Joe: We get it. You don't like eTopps. Just shut the **** up about it already, OK? Jesus Christ, you are a real one-trick-pony. Well, maybe two if you count your crazed obssession with trying to prove that Barry Bonds isn't a great player.

Listen to bitter mets fan chime in! All that money and you all are STILL are close to the bottom. HA HA

etopps is gone, the facts stand in the link, when their loyal and blind collectors give up then you know
it is bad. Of course they come on here and tell us how much they made and that this card is great but you
never hear about the losers...and there are over 3 million etopps cards that have lost money...are we
going to belive that gregmadduxfan missed them all?

I think stone's first post said it all!

I'm not a bitter Mets fan, jackhole. I'm just tired of your whining.
  • Joe- look at all the cards from basketball, football, hockey and classic football from 03 when I started. I bought at least 4 of every card in those sets and 10 classic football. Yeah, some of those cards went down but take a look at how much I made. Also, considering I got 10% of the chad johnson 01 rc for under 50.00 each card and 10% of the Koren card for under 25.00 each it looks like I did pretty well, sold each of those for a nice profit.

Yes tons of people have lost money but if buy the right cards you can do well, same as with the pit, even though that is a different concept. You have no idea what you are talking about and all you ever do is bash etopps. That port you sold Ronin he was able to buy a BMW with so I think he made out alright. If you hate etopps that is fine with me and everyone else since your entitled to your opinion, and everyone on the board knows you have an opinion about everything. I'll take a 100% profit in any type of investment, hell I would even take 10% and be happy. I collect cardboard now just as a hobby since the market has changed to much over the past 5-10 years. Etopps is an investment and there are several of us who made a lot of good money during the fall of 03 and spring of 04. Watch the etopps charts closely near November and there should be another spike again.

Stone: I have sold off a decent amount from my port, only cards I really have left are a couple sets and then the cards I have accumulated high %s of.

Can't argue with your success but ya have to admit, there are a lot of people who can't sing the same song.

I thought I was pretty savvy, but here's a reflection of my portfolio. I haven't bought many cards in over a year, sans the Arod yanks and a few team cards in bb. Most of these are 02 football.

    Portfolio Totals as of 8/12/2004

    Current Value : $192.30
    Amount Paid : $347.11
    Percent Change : -45%
    Value Change : -$154.81
    Card(s) Owned : 50

I definitely am not singing the same song. eTopps has sucked monster balls for me. Luckily, I flipped the Arod and the Twins team cards for a decent profit immediately after allocation. I also made some dough on the Lebron and Yao ming's. Other than that, a constant a$$ pounding. I'm hoping to get somewhere within the -20% range and then dump them all.
