Anxiously waiting here in Pittsburgh

At last, it's here....seems like it took forever. The last time the ANA convention was held in PIttsburgh, I was cruising the bourse with my 2 daughters, approximate ages of 3 and 7 at that time. I think I made it all the way up one aisle and part way down another before it was time to head out! So, this has been a long time coming, and I plan to spend an awful lot of time at the show (and PAN pre-show). Due to my father's recent bout in various hospitals & rehab centers this spring, I haven't been able to post or even lurk as much as usual..it's usually a winter activity for me anyway, since I have lotsa grass to mow. However, I am looking forward to meeting several of the regular contributors to the forum, notably steelhead Ken, Russ, keets, dorkarl and many others that I've forgotten at the moment. Is there a place you will be gathering before, during or after the show(s), where I might be able to introduce myself? Putting faces to the many names and comments will certainly be a treat! I have been extra good about saving my money for the event, and hope to come out with some nice, new examples, but also with some new friends. If anybody needs a place to spend some time between shows, or wants to see some local landmarks, image please get in touch with me - I've arranged the schedule with the missus so that I should only have to cover the store on Friday 8/20. image If anybody's looking for any particular coin or series, let me know ahead of time, and if I've got it, I'll bring it along with some of my personal favorites.image ps - Does Lucy-Bop plan on attending?image

I'll be there! How far away is Beaver Falls from Pittsburgh? I'm trying to get a field trip to an aviation museum in that town either Friday or Saturday.

  • It's maybe a bit less than an hour from town....I live in the south hills, Beaver Falls is northwest, near the Ohio border. I live very close to the old (original) Allegheny County Airport, which used to be the main airport for Pittsburgh, and I believe they give tours. They just had a fairly big show a few weeks ago, with vintage stunt and WWII planes.

just got my catalog today. 6 of my coins that are in there were originally cracked out of slabs, & were re-slabbed by heritage. 2 of them are a step higher in pcgs holders now. go figure......

Dorkkarl - Maybe, just maybe, you have found the secret to how Heritage can survive with such high overhead. If I recall correctly Scott Travers identified one or more of the Heritage people as among the best crack out artists of all time. The lingering question of course is whether a coin upgrades because it deserves to on it own merits or if coming from Heritage it got preferential treatment. Someday the ethics of the coin business may require full disclosure but I guess it remains buyer beware until then.

hey northcoin, that's extremely fascinating info. i guess i've heard similar sentiments before. the coins i had were properly graded at the original grades, imo, which is why i bought 'em..... now, i think they're a tad overgraded.
