I just ordered this really sweet looking 1921 Morgan in NGC MS-64 PL from a fellow forum member, and wanted to share her with you to see what you think of her.

I'll post an update to this thread when I receive her and give you my impression of how she looks in person! image

Kyle: That's not exactly the same story that you told me when you sold the coin to me image

  • For educational purposes...

The pic of the coin Stuart posted is what a real proof-like 1921-P Morgan looks like. The pic below is an example of an artificially frosted coin. Note the difference and aviod the latter!

1921's give morgans a bad name.

They are tough coins. It's good that you got a pl. Are you going to try and cross it.

Wow! Not every day you see a PL 1921! image

Thanks for the posts & comments DizzleCC & Gonfunko.

Damian, I'm not sure yet if I'll try to cross her. I've got to see her in person first to check out the depth of the mirrors since PCGS is tougher on designating PL's than NGC.

  • Hi,
that a very nice coin. I have only seen a handful of truly impressive PL 1921 Morgans over the years - most are semi-PL. From the scans this look quite nice - a decent strike for the date and good mirrors and contrast - even a bit watery on the reverse. Nicest I have seen in a long time!

    Best (and NICE coin!)

Definetly a hot tamale Stuart. Should be in a 65 Holder if you ask me.
  • Nice coin,

    I haven't looked at a lotta 21s, but that has to be the nicest I've seen so far: ThumbsUp;

Very nice 1921 Morgan. But I am always surprised how different the '21's look from the other Morgan dates. I guess they lost the master dies between 1904 and 1921, and recreated the coin. But they were unable to get it quite right....

Doctor Paper: I agree with you that the 1921 Morgans look very different, ad also have very different striking and luster characteristics from the pre-1904 (inclusive) Morgans.

In fact, I'd venture to say that the 1921 Morgans are the Silver Dollar version of Accented Hair Dollars image

After all, Miss Liberty's Hair was re-engraved to look more bold on the 1921 Morgan Dies... image

That's a beauty of a 21. Tough date to find with a good strike and lusterous from any of the 3 mints it was struck.
Always looking for attractive rim toned Morgan and Peace dollars in PCGS or (older) ANA/ANACS holders!

Thanks Anablep!! It's also tough to find any 1921 Morgans (any of the 3 mints) with nice eye appeal...
