1956 Mint Set Coins

I recently saw a 1956 Mint set with the toning described below. For 1956, is it common for the silver coins to tone:

1. deep blue on both sides (the two P quarters);

2. rich brown on top of multiple colors underneath on the obverse and golden on the reverse (one of the P halves); and

3. black on the obverse and spotted on the reverse (the two P dimes).

    Absolutely common. Obviously, it depends upon the conditions of storage, but the colors you are describing seem to match many of the 1956 and 1958 sets I see (which isn't too many anymore!!!).

    But . . commonality of color doesn't mean they aren't nice sets . . .with original, high-grade coins. That's always a possibility . . .

    Good luck . . .

    Somtimes they are very nice too. Years ago I saw some that were probably in the top ten color frankilns I've ever seen. Here one of mine that I can't seem to part with.

    Carl, your pictures are very close to the 1956 I saw. Your top frankie has purple, blues, yellows, greens and who knows what other colors. The one I saw had the same colors, except it was overlaid with a rich brown tone. At first look, it appeared to dark to have eye appeal, however upon looking at it closer and under appropriate lighting, the riot of color underneath the brown pops out and grabs you. The reverse is a golden color. The blue on your quarter is light compared to the two blue quarters that I saw. Again at first glance they look too dark to have eye appeal, but when viewed under appropriate lighting the deep blue comes alive. Your dime is very nice and is much better than the two black obverses on the dimes I saw.

    I have not looked at the 1947-58 mint sets very much. Your pictures make me want to start looking into these sets.
