"Companion" series books by Bowers--anyone ever read any?

Has anyone ever read the "Companion" series of books by Bowers (for example, The Bedside Companion, Lakeside Companion, etc.)? What are these books like? Are they similar the Adventures in Rare Coins books, or different? What are some of the topics discussed? Thanks.

  • I have just bought the Numismatists Bedside Companion 1 but have not started it yet. When I thumbed through it, it looked pretty good. Not all the articles are by QDB but the big majority are and the others look to be by other good, and known, authors.

  • Just grabbed the book off my shelf...most of the articles are 5 to 10 pages long and some of the topics are:

A Visit With B. Max Mehl
Memories of a Rare Coin Dealer
    From Wampum to Coin
    The Psychology of Collecting
The Wonderful World of Large Cents
    The 1856 Large Cent
    Colect With A Purpose

    and so on.

A hodge podge of topics but all interesting if you like QDB's typical style (and I love it) and have a general interest in coins, history, etc.

Thanks! This is exactly what I thought it would be.
