Biography of Q. David Bowers?

LongacreLongacre Posts: 16,717 ✭✭✭
Does anyone know if there has ever been written a biography of Q. David Bowers? He is one of the foremost numismatists of our generation, and a prolific author. It would be interesting to read about his life and how he developed himself and his various companies into a true empire. I have read little snippets about him, but I was wondering if there was anything more substantial out there.

  • I think that would be a great idea. I would like to see an Autobiography. He puts so much of himself and his experiences in his works that it would be a natural thing, in my opinion. Probably be a HUGE volume, though.

There isn't one, but the material is all there for anyone willing to do the leg work. He has captured hundred (thousands?) of his personal experiences in Coin World, the Numismatist, his auction catalogs, and fixed price lists.

I would suggest starting with a smaller project - create a bibliography of everything he has ever written. Even this would take a long time! Anyway, once you had the list of all the source material, you could easily spend a couple years digesting and condensing it to a single volume.
  • The introduction to Q.D.B's "Morgan Silver Dollars a complete history and price guide" has good info on him, albeit not a full biography of course.
  • I hope it includes what Q stands for.

He mentioned once that his father's name was Quinten so
maybe that's what it stands for? It would be nice to see a
bio about Dave Bowers. I can't think anyone who's done
    more for the hobby.
